Overview of Portland Vacation Rentals
Smell the Roses and Enjoy the Parks by Portland Vacation Rentals
Even though Portland is Oregon's most populous city, it has as its claim to fame being America's most environmentally friendly city. Green space planning was implemented as far back as 1903 and since 1995, the city has been actively acquiring key natural areas to be used for the preservation of fish and wildlife and for recreational use by its residents. Portland has both the largest and smallest park in the U.S. Forest park is the largest wilderness area, covering more than 5,000 acres within city limits. The smallest is Mills End Park; it is a mere two feet in diameter.
The climate is perfectly suited to growing roses and Portland is also often referred to as the "City of Roses." There are several beautifully sculpted gardens in the city and one of the most famous is the International Rose Test Garden. Rows upon rows of magnificent blooms can be seen here and a stroll through the garden is very worthwhile. The Portland Japanese Garden is another great place to visit if you appreciate horticulture. The bridges, waterfalls and carefully cultured and sculpted gardens create a wonderfully serene environment.
