Overview of Southern Coast Vacation Rentals
Set out to the Southern Oregon Coast on Your Next Vacation
If you are looking for the home of world-class fishing and outdoor activities, Oregon’s Southern Coast is it! There are so many beautiful sights to see and adventures to be had in the region that you will want to extend your trip for a few more days each time! From whitewater rafting, skiing and biking to hiking and wine tasting, the South Oregon Coast has it all. And, to top it off, it is also the location of North America’s deepest lake, Crater Lake. No matter when you book your South Oregon Coast vacation rentals, you get the best of everything, from the high desert to majestic mountains to lush valleys.
Southern Coast Weather Trends
When booking your South Oregon Coast cottages, remember that the weather in the region can be variable. You might see snow during the months of January and February but the further south you travel, the less likely you will be to even hit freezing temperatures. There is a great contrast between the rocky mountain ledges dropping into the ocean and the sand dunes that span more than 350 miles along the coast. The southern cities in the region are warm and sunny throughout most of the year; however, it will rain. The region has a fertile ecosystem that is bordered by a temperate rainforest.
Car Travel Along the Southern Coast
Most people traveling in and out of Oregon’s South Coast do so by car. There are plenty of good roads connecting U.S. Highway 101, which is the coast’s major highway, with Highway 5 and cities such as Eugene and Portland. However, driving can definitely take some time. Some of the southern towns can only be accessed via northern and southern routes because they are separated by the Oregon Coast Range. It is advisable to have a road atlas or even a GPS with you for your drive.
Take a Scenic Drive
The Southern Coast is really one of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest. A collection of scenic roadways, highways, and byways await your arrival and you should definitely take advantage of them. The Redwood Highway to Grants Pass will take you to the legendary Umpqua and Rogue Rivers where you can spend the day rafting, boating, fishing, and splashing about. If you would like a second-to-none view of the mountain lakes, the Klamath Basin, and Oregon’s Outback, your best bet is to take the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway.
The Towns of the Southern Coast
The coastal towns have a pace all their own. How you want to spend your vacation will determine what type of South Oregon Coast lodging you decide to book. Festivals, restaurants, outdoor activities, and attractions can be found in each town and are directly influenced by the ecological composition of the region. For example, you cannot go to Gold Beach without taking a river ride. If you want to see some whales, Port Orford lodging is the place for you. For a laid-back and relaxed ambience, Bandon-by-the-Sea is best. Your vacation should consist of a few days spent in several of the towns in order to get the true Southern Coast experience.
Fill the Days with Outdoor Adventures
Spending time along Oregon’s Southern Coast is to have an unspoiled coastal experience. Your days can be filled with windsurfing, sailing, fishing, hiking, and so much more. Feel free to explore some of the most spectacular and pristine beaches in the Pacific Northwest. Many people travel to the South Coast to fish the great lakes, rivers, and even the ocean while others come to simply take in the views. One thing not to miss is Oregon Caves National Monument which is smaller than you may think at only 480 acres. Above ground you will see great fir trees and wildlife while below ground you will see a great marble cave.
All the Adventures are not Outside
Though the diversity of the Southern Coast region is incomparable to anything else, there is plenty of fun to be had indoors as well. There are three casinos in the region that allow for plenty of gambling fun. If you prefer to taste your adventure, the culinary experience of Oregon’s South Coast is amazing; it is surprising, varied, and delicious. And do not forget the Rogue and Applegate Valley Wineries. No matter what you prefer as an adventure, Oregon’s South Coast definitely has it all.
