  • Rural and Magical

"Rural and magical are wonderful words, but often diametrically opposed. Most people are separated just enough from rural life as to think it is always as magical as a sky filled with the blinking star dream of a life of casual luxury. However, the truth is and will remain as long as there are rural places: creating a space for one's self in a rural setting (let alone one with enough surplus to share with guests!) is often fraught with struggle, heartbreak, difficulty, and a lifetime of hard work- equal parts luck, and a mountain of goodwill... Luckily, at the Bad Taste BnB, you wont have to deal with an ounce of that struggle. Moana, your gracious and graceful host has seen to it that all you need to do here is relax and enjoy the hard fought and won dream of the colestein valley just outside the hamlet of Ashland. A wonderful woman. A wonderful space. And a truly magical way to enjoy this rural gem. Don't be afraid to tip well if you feel the experience stretches to the extraordinary!"

  • Convenient, clean and comfortable

"This was the perfect place for us to stay. It is incredibly close to the Food Co-op, which is fabulous as it is possible within just a minute to walk to the store and get food for our picnics and meals. It was very clean, tidy and easy to move around in. Sitting outside on the deck under the tree was pleasant and shady. The air conditioning was appreciated during the hot summer. The owner was helpful and available and quick to respond."

  • Interesting Place to Stay

"A group of California Shakespeare visitors we decided to stay in Jacksonville for a change. The Judge Hanna House suited us very well, but keep in mind this is an OLD house and shows it in many ways, for example there is no bathroom for the two bedrooms upstairs, the kitchen and one bathroom w/shower is downstairs and the second bathroom is on the same floor as the living room. The master suite on the main floor was very large with a bathroom/shower. Things were clean and the beds comfortable. We found the kitchen suitable for either bringing in food or making a meal from scratch. Easy walking distance to Historic Jacksonville with fun shopping and good dining. Runners and walkers will appreciate the trails in Brit Gardens just across the street. This property could use some loving care and a few more chairs. Rumor has it the house is haunted, but we didn't see any ghosts! We'd stay again."

  • A little bit of heaven!!

"This couldn't have been a better place for our reunion of old school friends!! Absolutely everything we needed was provided (except the food!), and it was all perfect. The cabin is so comfortable and cozy, and wonderfully decorated. We didn't realize how long and windy the road was from Ashland, so would not have made arrangements to go to dinner and a play, knowing the return trip would be dark and difficult. Much more fun to BBQ and relax around the fire. Lots of fun games, movies, and books provided!! Thanks Randy for the great hospitality, and look forward to our next visit!!"
