  • River Dream is understated!

"It rained all 3 days and loved every minute of it! The all season room looks right over the water, totally glass encased. Did not move from the couch. The flowing water was hypnotic, the spattering rain on the roof was awesome. The house is a designer's showcase and left nothing undone. Every time I looked for something, there it was. Including a drawer full of cooking spices. This was not our first visit and will not be our last. The hostess was extremely hospitable and checked in (by email) occasionally. The best part was watching the Giants pull ahead in the World Series with game #5!"

  • An Unexpected Oasis

"The Oregon Cliff house had absolutely everything we needed and more. We came up for an escape from the pollen count in the valley. What we encountered was fresh air, the most beautiful river in Oregon, lots of space to be, a house with all the amenities, a fire pit by which to sit and watch the stars, and A WIFFLE BALL FIELD! We sat on the deck, bbq'd, made s'mores, played in the river, and played horseshoes and wiffle ball. What more can anyone want?"

  • Sublime cabin on Horse Creek

"The word "retreat" is apt. Leave your laptop at home. This beautiful cabin is exquisitely in tune with the spirit of the landscape: both energizing and relaxing. The cabin is impeccably clean and artfully decorated by a world traveler with a joyful heart. For our winter visit we appreciated the gorgeous scenery, the rushing high water of the creek, the fireplace, the spa-quality sauna, and the well-appointed kitchen."

  • Unplug, reconnect and recharge

"This hidden gem exceeded all of our expectations. My wife and I wanted a place to unplug, reconnect, and recharge. We made our reservations in the summer and spent the rest of the year looking forward to the trip. It started with a forecast of inches of rain (okay by us) and a call from the owner letting us know about the hot water pump problems the previous reviewer noted. We received regular updates during our drive on the status of the repairs, and by the time we arrived, the problem had thankfully been resolved. The owner noted that she was recovering from surgery. Perhaps that was a factor in the previous reviewer's experience? In any case, we arrived just before dark and found the cabin to be as described - nestled in the woods on the banks of the McKenzie and delightfully secluded. The hot tub had already been filled and was just the right temperature upon our arrival. This is not your ordinary hot tub! The cedar tub is situated in woods, perched above a tributary stream and overlooking the river. You reach the tub from the cabin by descending a short flagstone-paved path and crossing a cute bridge over the tributary. Robes were provided to make the trip out and back more comfortable. Inside, we enjoyed the cabin's unique architecture, thoughtfully-placed windows, french doors, and ample amenities. The cabin was clean and the care taken by previous renters was clear. The heat - all three forms of it - was more than ample. Beware the heated floors... my wife is now convinced that we need to install heat in our own floors! The television is small by modern standards and not well-placed for viewing from the couches, but it is perfectly adequate for watching a movie in the evening (there is a DVD player) and doesn't detract from the overall experience in the way that a modern large-screen TV might. This is a place to snuggle up and read by the wood stove, sip a glass of wine together on the deck, contemplate the passing river, and unwind in the hot mineral waters. In the warmer, dryer months this would make a great home base for exploring the many outdoor attractions of the McKenzie River, McKenzie Pass, and Santiam Pass. Of the cabins and B&Bs my wife and I have explored in Oregon thus far, this one is our favorite. It offers indulgent amenities without pretentious luxury or commercialism. We'll be back!"
