My husband was able to fly out ahead of myself and my parents for our daughter's wedding in Springfield. So he was absolutely correct in telling me it would be perfect when we arrived 7 days later. First, the driveway is surrounded by huge trees nearly cathedral-like in the way they tower above. Awesome. The inside was not disappointing at all. Nicely spaced bedrooms, one with private bath, and great gathering area with chairs and couch that are on rollers to shift into the desired seating arrangements. Plush carpet felt wonderful on my bare feet and kept early morning risers creeping quiet. All the kitchen appliances one would want: stove with large oven, microwave, full size refrigerator, toaster, etc. Never turned on the TV once ... we were too entranced by the full length deck off the back. That quickly became our reading, eating, grilling, talking, drinking coffee, joking, and watching a fisherman catch a huge 3 foot long steelhead area! My 83 year old dad was thrilled to see the struggle and successful catch and gave the fisherman a round of applause. We walked only a few yards to the boat launch each day, where we saw multiple fish breach like whales out of the water and make huge splashes around us. Must have been pretty big salmon or steelhead. Loved going to sit on the stairs leading to the river from the house with my coffee just soaking in the sun. Nearly 90 degrees each day. And the house was kept cool everyday just by shutting up the place after letting the cooler air in at nighttime. Very much shaded, so very comfortable even in the heat of the afternoon. Boy did that deck get used! Plenty of towels and bedding and use of washer and dryer made things much simpler (less packing). I definitely look forward to returning, possibly when our daughter has a baby? Thanks for all the great memories and comfort of your home."

"We just returned from a week at this cozy and charming little cabin. This area is so lush and green, with many great hikes and places to explore. The cabin is right on the river- so nice to listen to as we sat out on the deck or slept at night. I waved at the river rafters while relaxing in the hammock--how great is that!?! Randy was so welcoming and made us feel right at home--a great host. A great place to get away from it all. We were sorry to drive away!"

"My daughter, son-in-law, and five year-old granddaughter live a world away in Belgium; we do not see each other often enough! This year I decided to bring them here. We needed time together and they needed time away from their very busy lives, to unwind and recharge, but also to experience the west coast because they had never been here.
The River Dream was the perfect solution. Completely spacious inside in a stunning setting on the McKenzie River outside, we had the perfect visit except that a week was too short.
The house is a home; it is laid out perfectly with a master suite on one end on the first floor overlooking the river and my granddaughters bedroom on the other end. Upstairs was yet another beautiful suite with a lounge and work area off of it overlooking the incredible living room and river from a balcony. Upstairs was like having a separate house!
The decor is soft and the finishes very Zen. The house has every amenity imaginable and more than having every amenity, each amenity is state-of-the art, from the sound system and entertainment center, wi-fi, and even every appliance that is first-rate and barely makes a sound. Perhaps our favorite was the hot tub on the deck overlooking the river, but it is hard to choose a favorite.
The location, outside of being a beautiful riverside home on the McKenzie, is but a short and gorgeous drive to Eugene or, heading east on the McKenzie Highway, 5 minutes from an incredible fish hatchery, farther on a fascinating Civil War/American Indian Museum, and still farther the breath-taking Sahailie Falls (translate from Chinook: "Heaven").
The River Dream became our base: to stay in or to venture out. We went to the Aquarium in Newport and up to Depoe Bay to whale watch, leaving plenty of time for a relaxing evening. Another day it was Wildlife Safari near Bend--another full day with plenty of time to return and relax. Or just a day in Eugene at the Science Factory and Saturday Market.
Above all, the owners are extraordinary and Marilyn was the exquisite Hostess who met us and showed us every feature of the house and welcomed us as if to our new home.
Anyone seeking an exceptional experience will have one staying here!

"We stayed here with our family of three as an early birthday getaway for my husband. The fishing in front of the house was so-so, but we heard that the river was about to be stocked so it sounds like we just missed the big ones by a few days. No matter, he still enjoyed being out in the river for hours each day and even helped our six year old land one! The home is clean and well maintained, as are the grounds. The river access was very easy and we waded in the water every day, skipping rocks. (it was unseasonably warm for September!)
The owner is understandably concerned about the number of stairs that lead from the house to the various decks and to the river, which is why this listing says "no young children". Don't be put off by that. If you have toddlers this may not be for you, but our six year old had a blast! The stairs are very solid, with appropriate railings. Also note that there are two bedrooms on two floors. So, if you have a kiddo with night-time needs this could be a concern.
We met a few of the neighbors during our stay, very nice! The house was also very quiet inside, despite the proximity to the road and bridge. And, there were a lot of games available to play when it got too dark to fish.
This weekend was a much needed family getaway and we would not hesitate to return. Many thanks for sharing this great spot!"
