"My daughter, son-in-law, and five year-old granddaughter live a world away in Belgium; we do not see each other often enough! This year I decided to bring them here. We needed time together and they needed time away from their very busy lives, to unwind and recharge, but also to experience the west coast because they had never been here.
The River Dream was the perfect solution. Completely spacious inside in a stunning setting on the McKenzie River outside, we had the perfect visit except that a week was too short.
The house is a home; it is laid out perfectly with a master suite on one end on the first floor overlooking the river and my granddaughters bedroom on the other end. Upstairs was yet another beautiful suite with a lounge and work area off of it overlooking the incredible living room and river from a balcony. Upstairs was like having a separate house!
The decor is soft and the finishes very Zen. The house has every amenity imaginable and more than having every amenity, each amenity is state-of-the art, from the sound system and entertainment center, wi-fi, and even every appliance that is first-rate and barely makes a sound. Perhaps our favorite was the hot tub on the deck overlooking the river, but it is hard to choose a favorite.
The location, outside of being a beautiful riverside home on the McKenzie, is but a short and gorgeous drive to Eugene or, heading east on the McKenzie Highway, 5 minutes from an incredible fish hatchery, farther on a fascinating Civil War/American Indian Museum, and still farther the breath-taking Sahailie Falls (translate from Chinook: "Heaven").
The River Dream became our base: to stay in or to venture out. We went to the Aquarium in Newport and up to Depoe Bay to whale watch, leaving plenty of time for a relaxing evening. Another day it was Wildlife Safari near Bend--another full day with plenty of time to return and relax. Or just a day in Eugene at the Science Factory and Saturday Market.
Above all, the owners are extraordinary and Marilyn was the exquisite Hostess who met us and showed us every feature of the house and welcomed us as if to our new home.
Anyone seeking an exceptional experience will have one staying here!

"We stayed here with our family of three as an early birthday getaway for my husband. The fishing in front of the house was so-so, but we heard that the river was about to be stocked so it sounds like we just missed the big ones by a few days. No matter, he still enjoyed being out in the river for hours each day and even helped our six year old land one! The home is clean and well maintained, as are the grounds. The river access was very easy and we waded in the water every day, skipping rocks. (it was unseasonably warm for September!)
The owner is understandably concerned about the number of stairs that lead from the house to the various decks and to the river, which is why this listing says "no young children". Don't be put off by that. If you have toddlers this may not be for you, but our six year old had a blast! The stairs are very solid, with appropriate railings. Also note that there are two bedrooms on two floors. So, if you have a kiddo with night-time needs this could be a concern.
We met a few of the neighbors during our stay, very nice! The house was also very quiet inside, despite the proximity to the road and bridge. And, there were a lot of games available to play when it got too dark to fish.
This weekend was a much needed family getaway and we would not hesitate to return. Many thanks for sharing this great spot!"

"Over the past 40 years my family has stayed in all three of the cabins at different times and once inhabited all of them at the same time for a family reunion. We love the sound of the river flowing over the rapids at night. The cabins have all been upgraded several times since we first stayed there in the 1970's. They are beautiful inside and out and fully equipped. Recently three of us stayed in the small cabin and I found the bed to be very comfortable and warm. Thank you Dick and Doris for continuing your family's heritage of providing rest for the weary bones and a starting out place for adventures in the beautiful mountains and fun on the river."

Nice interior, responsive hosts during the booking process.
"My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a winter weekend getaway. Everything was nicely appointed inside - kitchen, linens, etc. The view of the river was fantastic with a wonderful screened porch that seems like it would be perfect during the warm summer months. Great proximity to Mckenzie River Trail system. A little too close to the road for me but with cold temps, the windows were shut and we didn't hear much noise. We did have one issue that wasn't fully resolved by owner upon departure."
