  • Unplug, reconnect and recharge

"This hidden gem exceeded all of our expectations. My wife and I wanted a place to unplug, reconnect, and recharge. We made our reservations in the summer and spent the rest of the year looking forward to the trip. It started with a forecast of inches of rain (okay by us) and a call from the owner letting us know about the hot water pump problems the previous reviewer noted. We received regular updates during our drive on the status of the repairs, and by the time we arrived, the problem had thankfully been resolved. The owner noted that she was recovering from surgery. Perhaps that was a factor in the previous reviewer's experience? In any case, we arrived just before dark and found the cabin to be as described - nestled in the woods on the banks of the McKenzie and delightfully secluded. The hot tub had already been filled and was just the right temperature upon our arrival. This is not your ordinary hot tub! The cedar tub is situated in woods, perched above a tributary stream and overlooking the river. You reach the tub from the cabin by descending a short flagstone-paved path and crossing a cute bridge over the tributary. Robes were provided to make the trip out and back more comfortable. Inside, we enjoyed the cabin's unique architecture, thoughtfully-placed windows, french doors, and ample amenities. The cabin was clean and the care taken by previous renters was clear. The heat - all three forms of it - was more than ample. Beware the heated floors... my wife is now convinced that we need to install heat in our own floors! The television is small by modern standards and not well-placed for viewing from the couches, but it is perfectly adequate for watching a movie in the evening (there is a DVD player) and doesn't detract from the overall experience in the way that a modern large-screen TV might. This is a place to snuggle up and read by the wood stove, sip a glass of wine together on the deck, contemplate the passing river, and unwind in the hot mineral waters. In the warmer, dryer months this would make a great home base for exploring the many outdoor attractions of the McKenzie River, McKenzie Pass, and Santiam Pass. Of the cabins and B&Bs my wife and I have explored in Oregon thus far, this one is our favorite. It offers indulgent amenities without pretentious luxury or commercialism. We'll be back!"

  • Wonderful getaway near Eugene

"What a perfect place to enjoy the Eugene area as well as the beautiful McKenzie river! The house is perfect, charmingly decorated, very comfortable and in a beautiful setting with lots of places to sit outside. I especially loved the couch upstairs next to the big window overlooking the river. Eugene is just minutes away yet you feel you're way out in the country here, with no city noises at all. I especially appreciated the warm welcome I received from the owners. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Oregon."

  • A year round get-away location

"Over the past 40 years my family has stayed in all three of the cabins at different times and once inhabited all of them at the same time for a family reunion. We love the sound of the river flowing over the rapids at night. The cabins have all been upgraded several times since we first stayed there in the 1970's. They are beautiful inside and out and fully equipped. Recently three of us stayed in the small cabin and I found the bed to be very comfortable and warm. Thank you Dick and Doris for continuing your family's heritage of providing rest for the weary bones and a starting out place for adventures in the beautiful mountains and fun on the river."

  • Perfect end to Summer...

"Just wrapped up a week of perfect weather, perfect fishing and first and foremost all in a perfect setting! Couldn't ask for more, the location is one of the best, the house layout works well for everyone in the family, one floor, master suite large and welcoming etc. Easy to get around for the older folks and our blind Basset Hound. Kitchen has everything we need and the new grill/smoker is even bigger than the Traeger it replaced! If it sounds like we have been here before, we have (several times) and hopefully will be back many, many more! It get's harder every time to write something different.. We did have a "flock" of Turkeys visit us one morning, that was a first!! Caught lots of trout, lost two Steelhead, one on my new Spey rod (have to blame something). The sunsets were amazing and the full moon was something to behold! I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.... Now back at work basking in the glow of memories... Thank you yet once again Charles and family for sharing this special place!"
