"We stayed at Green Valley for two nights after our wedding. It worked out to be almost exactly halfway between Pittsburgh (where we were married) and Philadelphia (where we live). It was honestly the perfect little honeymoon getaway. Francena Cottage completely exceeded our expectations - everything was neat and very clean, the furnishings are very nice and modern, and everything is right where you want it. It feels like a cross between a cottage in the woods and a decent hotel room. It's comfortable but very modern and warm! We went to a local place to pick up sandwiches the first night, and enjoyed a quick trip to Berkeley Springs the following day to pick up supplies for dinner and explore. I have stayed in a lot of cabins and cottages over the years, and it is really hard to find a place where you are comfortable making a full meal. My husband and I really enjoy cooking, and could have easily made meals here all week. We also found time to soak in the hot tub (while checking out the stars), we explored some of the trails around the property and biked to the lake where we took a sunset paddle boat ride. I took a dip, but it was still a bit cold for me to swim in the lake, but that's what the hot tub is for! On our way home, we explored many of the historic sites along the C&O Canal. I haven't been able to stop raving about the cottage and how peaceful everything was since we have gotten back. I also have to add how nice the owner is to work with. We accidentally forgot my husbands tuxedo on our way out, and she graciously shipped it back to us. I'm already encouraging my family and friends to pick a weekend we can return soon!"

"My wife and I enjoyed Matt's hospitality at Drooly Bear cabin this past weekend! Although there is a tv, we were specifically unplugging from computer/tv/phone so we didn't use it. It's in secluded central PA, near Raystown Lake and Trough Creek State park where we enjoyed long hikes with our Australian Shepherd Atticus! The unpaved road is also great for mountain bikes or walking. There are a few other cabins near by, but we saw very few people. We woke to the sounds of a multitude of songbirds singing in the surrounding woods and went to bed after enjoying an outdoor campfire under the stars! There is an upstairs loft with a king bed, jacuzzi and bathroom, unfortunately the windows would not open to it was too hot. We used the comfortable downstairs bedroom where the full bath has a shower. The kitchen was great and had all the appropriate cooking utensils. There is an outdoor grill, great front porch, and a grill for the firepit. Matt was very responsive and easy to contact. We really enjoyed our stay and will hope to come back!!"

"Completely as described in the listing, the cozy house is part of a farm. Liza was available (next door) to answer questions, but we had complete privacy. All pots, pans, utensils, and baking needs were found in the kitchen, which is a rarity in my experience with vacation rentals. Got the impression it was an old house but nicely and completely renovated within the past 10 years. All appliances and bathrooms were modern and working perfect. I'm not usually a fan of country decor, but this was more authentic looking, with lots of browns, rusty reds, and faded blues. Not kitchy or cute.
Husband is a history buff, so very much enjoyed nearby Fort Bedford Museum and the recreated old village. Ate out most lunches and some dinners, and the Jean Something Tavern west of Bedford on Rt 30 was our favorite. I enjoyed the antiques in town and coverlet museum. The 2 state parks were great, too. There are several (20?) picturesque covered bridges in the area, and one was an easy walk from the home. There are 2 great summer ice cream places on the main road -- the cow and the igloo.
Would recommend this to a friend who wanted a fairly low-key vacation with plenty of time to relax."

"This was our 4th trip to the Green Valley. Loved the cottages, lake, trails, fishing, and the peace and quiet. Great place to unwind and read a book. If you are looking for a day out, try nearby Berkeley Springs with nice little shops, spa and dining. The owner, Lola was wonderful to work with and met every accommodation. Our big bonus was bringing our 2 westies. Not many really nice places such as the cottages allow pets. We will return for many years to come."
