Overview of Allegheny Mountains & Her Valleys Vacation Rentals
Bordering New York, the Allegheny Area of Pennsylvania
A trip to Allegheny Area vacation rentals in Pennsylvania will intimately acquaint you with both New York and Pennsylvania’s border. The Allegheny region sits in the far north, just east of Lake Erie. The closest city to the area is Bradford on the Pennsylvania side. Those partaking of Allegheny area resorts will find they can be along the border of the National Forest which extends south from the New York border. Whether you choose the comforts and personal touches of a resort or a private home with a cozy atmosphere and fully stocked kitchen, the Allegheny region is full of excitement and fun.
Stepping Into the Past at Allegheny Area Condos
Pennsylvania is rich with history and a mixture of cultures. It was in this state that the first shots of the French and Indian War were fired, as well as those for the American Revolution. The polio vaccine was worked on at the University of Pittsburgh. All of this is spread throughout the state which will make the history and culture of Allegheny of little surprise. Allegheny’s location made it important to Native Americans and later to white settlers. Allegheny is also the name of a city founded in 1788 along the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers near Pittsburgh. It was inhabited with Germans and later Croats, before turning into the Commons. The national forest offers 516,000 acres of land that was once free and is still untamed for visitors to Allegheny to enjoy.
The Allegheny National Forest Near Allegheny Area Vacation Rentals
The national forest is the one place tourists head each year due to its locale close to the Ohio and Allegheny Rivers. It is also the lush forests that draw in tourists with its numerous recreational activities on offer. Camping, picnicking, hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, and skiing are all activities of the Allegheny area. For those renting a home along the forest's border, there are boat rentals and a boat ramp in the event you want to bring your own. In winter, skiing, snowmobiling, and skating are all available. Spring will bring wintery activities along with the adventure of hiking to see the new wildlife and flowers that dot the landscape.
In autumn, the forest is most vibrant with yellows, oranges, and reds due to the changing of the trees’ leaves. A photographer will delight in the beauty of the region, with the snow-capped mountains rising above the forest floor and the sun just breaking through the foliage.
Best Places to Explore While in the Allegheny Area
With the heritage Pennsylvania offers, it should come as no surprise that there are numerous historic places to visit. Many of the places on the list are in Pittsburgh which is just outside of the national park area. One place that is a must on the list is the Priory. The Priory was built in 1852 as the St. Mary’s German Catholic Church. A home was built in 1888 for the Bavarian Benedictine priests and brothers. The church eventually merged with Italian and Polish congregations before closing. Since its closure, the house has been turned into a banquet hall and bed and breakfast.
The Penn Brewery should also be on your list; it began in 1987. The old Eberhardt and Ober Brewery combined in one building to create the Penn Pilsner brew and other specialty beers. Tourists and vacationers like you travel each year to the Brewery for their German menu and live music.
During the late 19th century, Allegheny became a town for stately homes with many wealthy families of the area building grand estates. The area was named the Mexican War Streets due to General William Robinson Jr. who returned from the Mexican War to subdivide his land and name the streets after his battles. Today, one can still see many of the stately homes.
Dinner and Entertainment Offered Around Allegheny Area Resorts
The influence of the German culture has made its mark on the cuisine one can experience while in Pennsylvania. A number of local restaurants offer full German menus, American cuisine, and some other international fares. You have only to drive around the small village, town, or city you are near to find a five-star restaurant.
