"Winding back around a country road into the woods out of the suburbs, we were greeted by a charming unlatched gate welcoming us to cozy candlelit windows, and peaceful music playing. Before I could even taken in every careful detail of the living room, my eyes welled with tears as I told my husband, "You did good." He scouted out the kitchen promptly to see what was available for cooking our meals. I had to slow him down to savor the ambiance. No expense was spared, even for the commode and the bathroom sink. The blend of rustic cabin and touches of elegance were perfect. The heart-shaped jacuzzi was lovely, not at all like a "cheap motel." The king size bed offered a quality mattress. The generous collection of CDs was lovely. And yes, the kitchen offered an electric skillet, casserole dishes and place settings for the table.
My husband quite enjoyed a treat of steak and eggs for breakfast (something we never have) with a package of thin steaks purchased at the Giant grocery store nearby, and eggs and milk purchased from the hosts' wonderful little farm store. A Dollar Tree next to the Giant also offers any forgotten toiletries, condiments, etc. for, you guessed it, $1 per item. Also the Giant had a lovely salad bar from which we also purchased some fruit for breakfast quite affordably. Nearby, watch carefully so you don't miss signs for "Mother's Kitchen" where in a little shed at the end of her driveway, a kind woman sells her home-canned goods and eggs at amazingly reasonable prices. She will appreciate any donations of empty egg cartons and canning jars. We also bought fresh vegetables from neighboring farms. Being able to eat healthy fresh local foods was part of the treat for us.
The back patio faces a spacious back yard, and offers a grill, table & chairs with umbrella, and a glider swing. The autumn foliage had not quite peaked and was lovely. My husband sat in the plaid wing chair reading his Bible, and looked as handsome as I knew he would sitting there. We enjoyed the fireplace SO much.
This was my husband's gift to me for my 50th birthday. We left the suburbs behind, brought years of maturing in our marriage with us, and didn't want to return to our apartment, traffic, etc. We agreed that the experience was better than our wedding or honeymoon and discussed how we could continue back at home the peacefulness and communication we shared at Glowing Logs. For us, a little glimpse of heaven!"
