  • Great historic home!

"Fascinating place to stay! There was plenty of room in this old historic home for my family. Antique rope bed was actually comfortable! Kitchen was well stocked. Plenty of games to play and Civil War books to read. Location was just outside the noisy center of town but very close to battlefields and reenactment locations. Owners are excellent to deal with and they respond quickly. If you are a history buff or interested in the Civil War, you will not be disappointed by this home."

  • A Great Time, but Some Issues

"Overall, the home worked well for us and we really enjoyed our week. Having lived in that area until 19 years ago, this was a return trip for us, our grown kids, and grand kids, to all get to see both sides of the family as well as do some tourist activities (Hersheypark, Philly Zoo, Indian Echo Caverns, Strasburg RR, buggy ride, etc.). The home had plenty of space, a great location, and more than acceptable amenities. It also offered a great backyard for the grand kids, all 8 years and under. There were 2 negative issues I must mention. There really needs to be a step put in place from the sliding glass door in the dining room to the backyard. As it stands currently, it is unsafe and uncomfortable for most adults to step down, much less children. Also, the home is advertised with central air and, indeed, has duct work throughout for it. However, there was absolutely NO air coming through the ducts upstairs. There was a window unit in the large bedroom but both the other bedroom and loft area were very warm. I called the owner but nothing was (could be?) done. In a hot week in mid-July, this makes for very uncomfortable sleeping conditions."

  • Perfect country vacation house

"This house was perfect for our group of 9. We had more than enough room for all of us. My toddler appreciated the toys provided. The view in the backyard is amazing. It is a short drive to Amish stores and restaurants. There is some street noise from cars and carriages but it didn't bother us. We hope to make it back to PA soon and would definitely stay here again!!"

  • So Serene and Peaceful!

"My husband and I had such a wonderful time here. We needed some time away just to relax and recharge from all the duties of home repair, taking care of an elderly and disabled parent, and everyday life. We enjoyed just sitting out on the patio overlooking the farmland and country road and spent hours out there listening to the birds, having our meals, watching the fire, and just enjoying the quietness. The cottage was quaint and well decorated. We enjoyed the hot tub a few times (although I would have like it a bit hotter). Having everything there to cook meals and eat was very nice and allowed us to not have to go out. Thank you for allowing us to stay."
