Overview of Philadelphia & Its Countryside Vacation Rentals
Reaching the Heart of Philadelphia Could not be Easier
Reaching your Philadelphia area vacation rentals, around the area that gave birth to the American Revolution, could not be easier. Philadelphia has an international airport and is on three Interstate highways, I-95, I-76 and I-676, the Vine Street Expressway. As with all major cities, it has an excellent road system to make getting in and around the city straightforward. Choosing Philadelphia area condos puts visitors at the center of the original 13 colonies, in a city that was once the nation’s capital.
Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, is known for hot summers, mild falls and springs, and cold winters, with an average snowfall of 20.5 inches.
Philadelphia: One of America’s Most Historic Cities
Most visitors to "Philly" head to the Liberty Bell Center to see one of the main symbols of the American Revolution, the Liberty Bell. There is a wealth of history waiting to be discovered. Visit the site of the meetings of Congress and the Constitutional Convention at the City Tavern in the Old City as well as Carpenters Hall where delegates met in 1774 to speak out against the King. In Declaration House, visitors can see where Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence and Independence Hall where it was eventually signed. A huge variety of museums awaits visitors, covering everything such as natural sciences, African American history, science, archaeology and anthropology.
Children will enjoy a day at the "Please Touch" Museum. While here, explore Christ Church Burial Ground. Dating from 1695, the cemetery is the final resting place of Benjamin Franklin. Another fascinating tour can be taken at Eastern State Penitentiary to visit the cellblocks, solitary cells, Al Capone’s cell and Death Row. For a sightseeing tour with a difference, take a splash in the Delaware River and Ride the Ducks. There are also several wonderful gardens and arboretums to visit here. A visit to the Battleship USS New Jersey is worth a trip. Do not miss a trip to Valley Forge National Historic Park, site of the famous battle of 1777/78. Children will be enthralled with the "Once upon a Nation" tour to this historic area.
The city center is a great for shopping and includes grocery stores operated by Amish farmers selling fresh local produce. Visitors should not leave without having tasted the famed cheese steaks that originated here.
Incredible Sights and Adventures on Your Doorstep
Within a short drive of Philadelphia area resorts, visitors can tour several local wineries and vineyards. Children will also enjoy Sesame Place, a theme park based on the TV show with 14 acres of rides and attractions. In Delaware County, Linvilla Orchards features 300 acres of education and recreation. Longwood Gardens with its children’s programs, woodlands and gardens also makes for a wonderful day out. Families looking for outdoor adventures should head to Ridley Creek State park for biking, horseback riding and fishing. At Washington Crossing Historic Park, enjoy the surroundings and visit the site where George Washington led his exhausted soldiers across the icy Delaware River to attack the Hessians at Trenton. Enjoy a day at Tyler State park where the original farm has combined with beautiful woodland to create a wonderful recreation area.
