  • Secluded, beautiful setting

"Five of us stayed at the cabin for 6 days. The cabin was more than we expected. Although secluded in the woods, it had many of the conveniences of home. There was a dishwasher, as well as laundry and a drier. Since we engaged in many wet activities, the laundry facilities were very useful. Although it was a wet summer, the porches and the woods around the cabin had almost no mosquito problems. There is a flat screen TV with lots of channels, but why use it when there is so much natural beauty around. There is no air conditioning. Although we were at the cabin in August, we were quite comfortable. We brought extra fans but did not need them. The cabin has an outdoor fire pit as well as a grill. There is dry firewood under a tarp. There is poor cellphone reception, but the owners made the cabin telephone land line available. When we were not rafting or hiking, we made use of the kitchen to cook the tasty wild mushrooms that grow nearby in profusion. The cabin is affiliated with Beaver Creek Anglers and we had fun learning to do fly fishing. There were a lot of large trout in the nearby stream. We did not catch any, but we learned a lot from our fishing guide. (My home in Maryland is near a trout stream and I am going to practice my new fly fishing skills on the Gunpowder River.) The cabin overlooks a creek so you can have a nice view while you eat dinner. You do not see other people unless you drive into Ohiopyle. There are hiking trails right near the cabin, but the river and waterfalls of Ohiopyle Park are a short drive away."

  • Thanksgiving Family Reunion

"We spent Thanksgiving at Mountain Mansion - from Wed 11/27 to Sat 11/30 - we had a group of 26 including preschoolers, teens, mid40's & senior citizens. The home was very adequate for such a large group - the three different levels enabled us to "separate" from kids from time to time and yet share our meals together. We had a great time and would perhaps stay in warmer weather to take advantage of all the surrounding venues. Part of our family initially came from Somerset Pa - the location was great because we got together from Ohio, Md and Va. My only suggestion would be a second refrigerator perhaps in the garage during hot weather."

  • Return visit - even better than we remembered!

"This was our second family vacation at the Huber Haus. Our first visit was approximately 12 years ago and we were finally fortunate enough to find an open week this year that would accommodate the different schedules of our family. This is a truly special property and we enjoyed every minute there. The house has a flexible layout with a great flow, but we spent most of our time in the HUGE, open and well-equipped kitchen and on the roomy front porch. We cooked all meals at the house, with the exception of a few lunches and one dinner outing. My daughter-in-law led a yoga class on the front porch every morning and then we were off to the mountain to golf, bike, hike or play, or to spend a lazy day reading and enjoying the comfortable house and yard. Nights were spent star-gazing in the hot tub, sitting around the campfire, playing games in the game room, or watching movies. My grown sons loved having the washers and dryers available to wash their downhill biking clothes each day. The extra downstairs refrig was designated as the "beer frig" -- only a few steps from the foosball table. Many happy memories made and re-made! So nice that our "grand puppy" could come on the trip, too. Darrall is easy to work with, responds quickly and provides useful and thorough information. Thank you, Darrall, for your extra efforts to ensure our family had a great stay at the Huber Haus! We look forward to our next visit!"
