  • A Wonderful Time with Good Friends Enjoying the Fall Foliage in the Allegheny National Forest

"Just back from a great long weekend at the Wheeler-Farley Home. What a perfect location on the Allegheny River! The home was very inviting. Our group of 14 gals from a local exercise group had a lot of fun exploring the area, including several different hikes (including The Sherman Lighthouse), shopping, and a trip on the railroad train. The home accommodated our group very well and we each had our space, if needed. Very impressed with the quality of the furnishings, the dishes/glassware, linens, and overall condition of this home. Also it was very clean, and everything was in good working order. It is easy to see that the owners love this property. The foliage in the area was at its peak, and there was a snap in the air when we went on our outings. There was plenty to do in the area, although a car is needed. Enjoyed driving through the little towns. A bat sanctuary was located within walking distance to the south of the property and included a big barn for the 'pups' as well as a Bat condo. Good electronic communication with the owner...highly recommend this property!"

  • We loved Othmer Pond Estate and highly recommend it!

"We highly recommend Othmer Pond Estate; it was exactly as advertised. Othmer Pond Estate is a beautiful, well maintained, older home located at the edge of a small town (Coudersport) at the edge of the mountains. The location is the best of both worlds; one can walk into town or hike from the backyard. The house is large and comfortable with the charm of an older home. Both the interior and exterior are well appointed with comfortable and ample furnishings. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking light fare or full meals for a large group. The property was very clean from the home itself to the linens and towels provided and the outdoor areas. The yard was lovely and private with seating in front overlooking the pond as well as on the large patio off the rear of the house. As previously mentioned, the property sits at the edge of town but this was never a problem. There was lots to do from morning walks through town (everyone was very friendly), to the local movie theater (one showing daily at 730, one movie per week) a few shops in town, a little antiquing in the area, several local restaurants (Olga's was a little more upscale, Kaytee's provided "home cooking"), the PA Grand Canyon (45 minute drive, beautiful vistas, no hiking required), the Lumber Museum, Rainbow Fish Farm (catch and release or fish by the pound), and lots of hiking (out of the backyard, up the steep hill briefly , then a one mile flat trail), the Pine Creek Rail Trail (45 minute drive, easy flat walking, do the Turkey Path around milepost 12 - steep one mile path following a waterfall, pretty vistas at top), and the STS (Susquehannock Trail System, 85 mile loop with multiple on and off points). We had a great week at Othmer Pond Estate and highly recommend it. Greg, the owner, is easy to work with and very helpful. There is a caretaker locally if any problems arise (which they did not). We would definitely return!"

  • great location in Slate Run

"Cabin very nice. Twin bed in the laundry room a bit odd to call it a bedroom. The grill was in very bad shape, but caretaker got new one for us, just in time to make dinner on the grill. Caretaker very easy to contact & helpful. Used the fire pit, very nice & relaxing w/great backdrop of mountains. Beautiful view from deck. joined up w/my brother's family. Brought our own kayaks & bicycles. Did a 1 hr kayak run on the Pine Creek one day. Contacted Pine Creek Outfitters a few days ahead of time & arranged a pickup at the Slate Run parking area, for a bike ride. They drove us up to Ansonia, PA (~ 1hr ride). We took the 30 mile rails-to-trail back down to Slate Run with our bicycles. Perfect weather (well, a little hot/humid). Then cooled off in the Pine Creek near the cabin."
