"We just spent a week there with 12 people ranging in age from 18 months to 70. It was pretty much perfect. As soon as you walk in, the view takes your breath away. There are plenty of different areas to hang out in the house as well as on the screen porch, in the sunroom, on the upstairs deck, on the lower deck... We appreciated the use of the kayaks, Sunfish, bicycles, and beach chairs and toys. Inside, it was not too difficult to child proof for a toddler -- bring plenty of outlet covers and a few bungee cords. The only drawbacks were 1) internet that worked intermittently when used wirelessly -- since we all had iPads we could not plug in the Ethernet cable, and a couple of the guys actually had to work while we were there, and 2) the two bedrooms under the kitchen hear every footstep above; bring earplugs or encourage your early risers to use the downstairs kitchen. Beaches are good; we mainly stuck to the local Charlestown beach as it's a short bike or car ride, and did not find it too crowded. You can kayak to Boater's Beach, which is totally secluded, but a long paddle (about 45 minutes). We got fresh oysters from the oyster "farm" right in Tautog Cove, near the house -- about a one-minute paddle -- yum! I think we'd all happily go back there!"Guest: D in NC Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: July 29, 2014View listing

Charlestown Travel Tips
Check out Charlestown Rentals This Vacation
As you plan Rhode Island travel, you should seriously consider Charlestown rentals for your next lodging solution. Charlestown is a small coastal town that is easily accessible by plane and car. There is plenty to do within the town and much of it is located near most Charlestown rentals. The town, however, is spread out so you will definitely want to book a rental car. The beaches are usually accessed by bike most easily, so if you are thinking of booking Charlestown lodging near the beaches, you may want to bring your bike.
Great Beaches near Charlestown Lodging
In the summer, Charlestown rentals are great ways to sneak out to the beach and soak up the sun. The whole family will love this type of Rhode Island travel; an escape from work and school is always welcome. Each beach in town has varying levels of surf, but each is truly beautiful so do not forget the sunscreen. While most beaches in town are open to the public, do check the signs as a few are private beaches for residents only.
Festival Fun and Charleston Rentals
During the second week of August, Charlestown hosts its annual Seafood Festival which can be an exciting treat for you and the kids. The festival takes place in Ninigret Park which is quite close to many Charleston lodging accommodations. Visit the festival for arts and crafts, seafood, music, and rides. For music-lovers staying in Charlestown rentals, the Ocean State Reggae Festival is held in Ninigret Park during July.
Rhode Island Travel for Day Trips
Because the state is so small, Rhode Island travel is quite easy. If during your stay at Charlestown lodging you want to get away, think about heading over to Block Island which is about 12 miles off the mainland. It is accessible by ferry and home to the National Wildlife Refuge. You can spend the day swimming, wandering through the shops, or touring the area.
