Getting to and Around Newport

The nearest airport is TF Green International airport in Warwick, just north of Providence. However, because of its location between New York and Boston, many visitors flying in from across the states choose to route via one of the larger city airports and then commute the remaining distance by car, ferry or rail. The main Amtrak line travels via Rhode Island en route to Boston from New York. Stopping at Westerly and Kingston, travelers can then connect onto Newport by bus. In the summer months, there is a regular ferry connection between Newport and Providence. By road the Interstate 95 links Providence to the major east coast cities. Driving time from Boston to Newport is approximately 90 minutes and from New York City lodging about four hours. Regular bus services offer an alternate and affordable way of getting to your Newport accommodation.
