"The apartment was perfect for a lovely weekend getaway to visit my old college with my husband and mother and to enjoy Newport. Very comfortable, with great attention to detail when it came to amenities in all the rooms. The condo complex is walking distance to Thames Street and many restaurants, stores and bars. It's a very good option compared to high priced hotels and inns. Thank you for the professionalism! We will be back for sure."Guest: Yasna U. "My boyfriend and I recently stayed on the Lilypad for a weekend and we couldn't have asked for a better time. Everything from the comfortable bed, the fully stocked kitchen and the amazing views from the roofdeck made the stay a great one. Danielle is a great hostess and was available through e-mail or text all weekend if we needed to reach her. The water taxis and the drivers also exceeded our expectations as they arrived quickly each time we called for them. Both days we took the water taxi over to the dock and drove down to Second Beach, which is definitely something to visit while staying in Newport! Great memories on the Lilypad, would highly recommend this experience to anyone!"Guest: Taylor Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: June 16, 2014View listing
"We needed a place for a quiet getaway and decided on Newport. Now Newport isn't exactly quiet but this perfect little apartment was! Close to everything, shopping, dining the wharfs, nightlife, you name it, you have easy access. The apartment has everything you could need, nicely appointed with a nice little balcony off the back for enjoying morning coffee. Our hosts were very gracious and helpful too. If you want a spacious, lovely place to stay in Newport, this is it!"Guest: Karen R. Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: September 25, 2014View listing

Newport Travel Tips
Enjoy Traditional Sporting Activities at Newport
Rhode Island has a very colonial feel about it and Newport is no exception. Majestic buildings, stylish country clubs and classy summer events give testament to the fact that the island is still very much a playground for the wealthy. Lawn tennis, golf, and summer polo tournaments are enjoyed as lavish affairs. Sailing is one of the area's most popular pastimes and Newport is frequently referred to as the sailing capital of the world. On a summer's day, you can see the bay dotted with colorful sails. Boats are available for charter from the local marina and there's no better way to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon with friends than to sip ice-cold drinks as you cruise across the water. In recent years, surfing, kite boarding and paddling have also become popular pastimes.
Best Time of Year to Stay at Newport Vacation Rentals
Primarily a summer destination, many activities center around the beachfront and harbor. There are numerous events and festivals throughout the summer months to keep visitors entertained. Often rentals offer special reduced rates for wintertime. If you're looking for a quiet getaway where you can snuggle up in front of the fireplace and enjoy the ocean views, Newport is a great destination to consider.
Shopping and Sightseeing in Newport
If the ideal vacation includes browsing antique stores and art galleries then you will love exploring the Newport area. Home to many famous artists, stylish paintings are a great souvenir to take home with you. Many galleries also feature excellent photographic exhibits if you have more modern tastes. For outdoor enthusiasts, you can hire bicycles and ride on the island's many paths and quiet roads. Take a casual early morning stroll along the beach or visit one of the state parks and see the historic landmark lighthouses. The Newport Harbor and Yachting Museum reflect the strong yachting traditions of Newport and are interesting to visit.
The area produces some excellent wines. Touring the wine farms, you'll have an opportunity to taste and possibly even meet with the wine-makers. Combine that with sampling some local cuisine in many of the fine local restaurants with seafood delicacies and delicious desserts, and you'll be rolling home if you're not careful.
Getting to and Around Newport
The nearest airport is TF Green International airport in Warwick, just north of Providence. However, because of its location between New York and Boston, many visitors flying in from across the states choose to route via one of the larger city airports and then commute the remaining distance by car, ferry or rail. The main Amtrak line travels via Rhode Island en route to Boston from New York. Stopping at Westerly and Kingston, travelers can then connect onto Newport by bus. In the summer months, there is a regular ferry connection between Newport and Providence. By road the Interstate 95 links Providence to the major east coast cities. Driving time from Boston to Newport is approximately 90 minutes and from New York City lodging about four hours. Regular bus services offer an alternate and affordable way of getting to your Newport accommodation.
