Great value for a large family
"We chose this property because of the large space available and the bunk beds in one of the bedrooms. The property itself is fascinating and has obviously been tastefully added on to. We brought two families down and packed the house to the gills with 4 adults and 8 children. Never did we feel like we were cramped or stepping on each other. The kids really enjoyed the movies and the novelty of using VHS tapes... "How do you start the movie over?" REWIND! The covered, paved carport was great for a small kiddie pool that we brought and the outdoor shower was great when some of the younger kids got into the mud during a trip to the sound. How can you be mad at a muddy kid when you have such a nice, heated outdoor shower? The kitchen was well furnished and the various porches were amazing to get away from the madness of the indoors.
Key points (positive):
Bike/running trails directly behind house. Rent a bike and use it every day. Awesome, easy access to beaches.
24hr Grocery store on island is great and prices are reasonable
Fresh water can be obtained from the city hall building less than 3 blocks away
Laundry room downstairs perfect to keep dirt and mud from inside
Visit Botany Bay for some truly outstanding nature sights! That beach is amazing!
Mattresses in master suites desperately need replacing. I have a bad back and it was utterly painful to sleep on. This was easily the worst part about our trip. Sleeping on a rock hard, squeaky mattress actually made me dread going to sleep at night. The kids' beds were just fine.
Tap water is really salty, even after filtering. Do NOT make coffee or tea with it. Get fresh water from city hall. Not really a big deal.
Bring dishwasher soap as it is fairly small compared to most newer units. Just takes a few extra cycles to wash everything when the house is full.
Owner: Consider adding some hammocks or swings under the home to encourage more outdoor activities. Otherwise, we truly enjoyed our stay and your property will be high on our list of recommendations, but PLEASE get those mattresses updated. After a day of chasing kids, I want to be snuggled in a nice bed while on vacation, not struggling for sleep. Also, you may want to have someone look at the power sockets in the living room and dining area. Some of the plugs fall right out as they are worn out. Possible fire hazard, but really easy to fix. Would definitely recommend, overall!"

"Our stay at Nature's Retreat was perfect. If you are not familiar with Jeremy Cay, it's a hidden gem on Edisto Island and is ideal spot for those seeking a beach vacation without all of the hustle and bustle of a busy, commercialized beach. The house was spacious, the beds cozy, and the kitchen was ideal for all meals. The icemaker spoiled us - seriously considering purchasing one for our home now! We took our kayaks and fished in the lagoon behind the house several times each day. We caught creek shrimp with the cast net right at the landing as well as blue crab, flounder, and redfish. The inlet was a natural "lazy river" and the kids enjoyed floating back and forth as the tides rolled in and out. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had! Cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much for your hospitality Vickie!"

"The first thing we were impressed with when inquiring about renting High Seas, was the quick response from the owner. The communication throughout the rental process was positively great! Any questions we had about the home or the area were quickly answered. I am thankful for the owner interest in their guests. A lot of thoughtfulness is put into the amenities provided with this home which sure takes a burden off travelers. Upon arriving we found High Seas to be just as beautiful as it appears in the photos - if not more so. It's truly a beautiful roomy home with much character and hospitality. Very comfortable furnishings and everything you need to make you feel "right at home." Every imaginable kitchen gadget, an abundance of dishware, cookware and electrical appliances are provided so we did quite a bit of cooking and grilling.
We enjoyed playing on the beach and in the ocean, searching for sea shells and shark teeth, bike rides around town and just hanging out at home. We enjoyed eating grilled shrimp (fresh off the boat) from Edisto Seafood. The atmosphere of Edisto Beach is very relaxed and family oriented. It was very easy to strike up conversation with other visiting families. There are no fast food chain restaurants at Edisto but there are plenty of unique eateries. We didn't get the opportunity to try all of them but we did enjoy the meals we had at Water Front, Sea Cow Eatery and during a rainy evening Bucks Pizza delivery.
We got to observe Turtle Patrol re-locating sea turtle eggs to a "turtle nursery" above the tide zone. The patrol ladies did an awesome job educating by-standers about the life cycle and research associated with sea turtles.
This is a great place to get away from everyday cares and enjoy a relaxing break. Thanks High Seas owners!"

"My husband and I had a wonderful weekend stay at this nice house. The owner was very accommodating and easy to work with! The short walk across the street to the beach access was not an issue. We could even still hear the ocean surf from the lovely deck! The house was comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. Breakfast at the Sea Cow is a must! Thanks for a great relaxing stay!"
