Recent Edisto Beach reviews
Large home on the lake and sixth green of the Plantation golf course.
"Unfortunately we arrived on Edisto Beach in the middle of the record setting early October flooding and high tides for South Carolina. The golf course was closed due to flooding the week we were on the resort, so I bought fishing gear rather than pay green fees. We successfully fished the lake from the dock at the rear of the house, and caught blue crabs with the traps provided with the rental. We did not use the double seater kayak. The house easily accommodated our three families with ample space, bedrooms and baths. In addition, the golf cart enabled us to carry beach gear, adult children and young grandchildren easily and enjoyably to the beach. A large dining table enabled us to dine together at the same time. We did have an issue with a curious electrical problem in the downstairs bedroom that was quickly and easily resolved by communicating with the rental agent. Bicycles are included with the rental however I recommend rental from someone on the beach as the ones provided by the homeowner are in need of repair. The large screened porches provided several evenings of relaxation and conversation using the porch swings, free of biting bugs. An outdoor propane grill provided two cooked meals, and tank refills can be obtained at the sole grocery on the island. In all fairness, the living room furniture is torn, faded and should be replaced. A thorough cleaning is needed (we came in the first week of October, near season end) for those areas that seemed to be overlooked like the top of the refrigerator, under bedroom furniture, lamp shades and bathroom walls and doors. That being said, this is an impressively large house in a great location to fishing, beaching and touring the island with ample parking for our four private vehicles."

"The Island Manor was fantastic vacation home. We could hear the ocean from the house and for us land locked individuals it was fantastic to hear the ocean waves while drifting off to sleep and waking up to see the sunrise. The home had plenty of interior space, as well as the porches had enough seating for the six of us. We were able to walk to the grocery store, and restaurants. The beds were comfortable and home was clean upon our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked with plates, flatware, cups, pots and cooking utensils. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We can't wait to come back!"

"We chose this property because of the large space available and the bunk beds in one of the bedrooms. The property itself is fascinating and has obviously been tastefully added on to. We brought two families down and packed the house to the gills with 4 adults and 8 children. Never did we feel like we were cramped or stepping on each other. The kids really enjoyed the movies and the novelty of using VHS tapes... "How do you start the movie over?" REWIND! The covered, paved carport was great for a small kiddie pool that we brought and the outdoor shower was great when some of the younger kids got into the mud during a trip to the sound. How can you be mad at a muddy kid when you have such a nice, heated outdoor shower? The kitchen was well furnished and the various porches were amazing to get away from the madness of the indoors.
Key points (positive):
Bike/running trails directly behind house. Rent a bike and use it every day. Awesome, easy access to beaches.
24hr Grocery store on island is great and prices are reasonable
Fresh water can be obtained from the city hall building less than 3 blocks away
Laundry room downstairs perfect to keep dirt and mud from inside
Visit Botany Bay for some truly outstanding nature sights! That beach is amazing!
Mattresses in master suites desperately need replacing. I have a bad back and it was utterly painful to sleep on. This was easily the worst part about our trip. Sleeping on a rock hard, squeaky mattress actually made me dread going to sleep at night. The kids' beds were just fine.
Tap water is really salty, even after filtering. Do NOT make coffee or tea with it. Get fresh water from city hall. Not really a big deal.
Bring dishwasher soap as it is fairly small compared to most newer units. Just takes a few extra cycles to wash everything when the house is full.
Owner: Consider adding some hammocks or swings under the home to encourage more outdoor activities. Otherwise, we truly enjoyed our stay and your property will be high on our list of recommendations, but PLEASE get those mattresses updated. After a day of chasing kids, I want to be snuggled in a nice bed while on vacation, not struggling for sleep. Also, you may want to have someone look at the power sockets in the living room and dining area. Some of the plugs fall right out as they are worn out. Possible fire hazard, but really easy to fix. Would definitely recommend, overall!"

"My sister and I fell in love with the pictures, but were enchanted by the actual place. We were there during the recent historical rain. Although it saddened us to see the damage done by thw storm, we had a great adventure that week, watching the forces of nature.
The house itself couldnt be nicer. It has everything, views, both front and back, comfortable furniture, and the kitchen is well furnished.
I talked with Mike several times because of uncertainty about the weather, and he was so nice. He and Ellen came to check on the place after the storm, and they are both very gracious people.
I do hope to go back again."
