  • Dream location for family with young children

"To start with owner was responsive and wonderful to work with. We received helpful information prior to our arrival to get started planning. We could not have wanted more in terms of location. A simple walk across the parking lot of the villa brought us to the boardwalk over the dunes to the beach. We were a very short walk to the Night Heron Pool/Nature Center. The nature center was a nice place to spend some time on a rainy day. The pool was a great option for some later evening swimming as well as a low-key pool-side lunch or dinner. Wednesday evening there was a event for kids/families at Night Heron Park. Night Heron Park also had a small, 9-hole frisbee golf course. The beach was perfect. My husband noted, that although there were many families in the area, the beach never felt crowded. The beach is great for biking, so we biked west to the end of the island where it meets the Kiawah River one morning as well and on another morning to the east for some more desolate beaches. Bike trails abounded for island exploration and we looked for the watch towers to view the marshes. The villa was clean and had a nice, recently renovated kitchen. The pull-out sofa in the living room accommodated our 7- and 9-year old children well. The kitchens as well-stocked for its size, and the outdoor porch was great for for outside dining. Should we return to Kiawah, we will definitely attempt to rent this villa!"

  • Wonderful House and Great Stay!

"We stayed at this house for the first time in July 2014. We have been to Kiawah many times and have enjoyed staying at several places, but this time we needed a larger house to accommodate 2 adults and 6 kids/teens (ages 12-16). It was very easy to work with the owner to arrange the rental and very convenient to pick up the keys at the Wyndam counter in Freshfields Village. The house is even prettier in person than in the photos. The furnishings are nice, the beds are comfortable and the view is absolutely gorgeous! The location is excellent, as it is a very quick walk or bike ride to the beach. Even with surf rider rafts hung over our backs and carrying assorted beach goodies, it still took less than 5 minutes to ride the bikes to the beach. My only suggestion for improvement -- and this is so minor that it is not an actual complaint -- would be to add a few more cooking utensils to the kitchen, such as pizza cutter and a few more spatulas and wooden spoons. We have already booked this home for another stay this winter and we are looking forward to it already!"

  • Beautiful Home

"Sweetgrass is a beautiful home and perfect for three "older" couples visiting Kiawah for a wedding. The home's set up was perfect as each couple had their own private area. Also, the homes where Sweetgrass is located are not close to each other so there is quiet and privacy. The home is immaculate and every comfort provided. The St. John’s are so wonderful, kind and considerate, they are willing to do anything within their powers to accommodate visitor’s request. They even gave up their weekend to us when a scheduling error, not their fault, occurred. The St. John’s truly went beyond anything I have ever experienced to work with us, I cannot thank them enough. Alli, brought us many hours of entertainment and to see her babies was amazing. Having a garage to store our bikes and beach “stuff” was wonderful. This is a perfect home for any age group to stay in but even more so when couples are sharing, no one has to comprise. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us."

  • An excellent vacation "home" - Two years in a row!

"This is the second year we've stayed at this lovely home, and it didn't disappoint. This house feels like the home of a friend, not an anonymous vacation rental. The interiors are beautiful and comfortable for active families. The kitchen is well stocked with go-to pots, pans and other tools. And the layout artfully combines extremely generous space (high ceilings, 5 BRs, solid new construction, etc) and intimacy with an open kitchen/family room area looking out over the pool. Everyone can 'hang out' together even while doing separate things. It's only a brief walk to the beach, but rental bikes allow even more exploration and freedom of transportation. I'd recommend reserving bikes in advance (despite easy access in years past, we found them all sold out this time). We will be back as soon as possible!"
