"My husband and I, along with our 8 year old, 92 pound, female lab rented “Locust Grove” for the months of February and March. It was an escape from the harsh winter weather we were experiencing in upstate New York. We chose this property mainly because they would accept large dogs and of course, the river and we weren’t disappointed. We have a somewhat different opinion from most of the other renters who I believe were there for a short period of time. With that said, there’s not much more I can add to the description of the property itself that hasn’t already been addressed. The house was certainly large enough for the two of us along with several bouts of visiting family and friends. We spent most of the time in the kitchen and living room areas, looking out over the back of the property, through the double doors, watching the tide come and go from the river. My husband would take a folding chair onto the porch through the French doors of the master bedroom to catch the sun while I would take my coffee and walk out to the marsh and sit along the river to watch the wildlife greet the morning. This is a place for nature lovers for sure. The egrets, herons, ducks, pelicans, cormorants were plentiful and I even was witness to a bald eagle several times and a lone dolphin that came cursing by at low tide. The song birds were abundant everywhere and we loved waking up each morning to the baying of Vince, the donkey next door. Keeling was a great owner/manager and responded quickly to any of our needs, questions and problems that we had. We happen to be college basketball fans and with March Madness coming soon were disappointed that we were unable to get most of the games. Keelin promptly called Direct TV and up-graded to the sports package. Very nice indeed. The internet worked with no problems. Wadmalaw is truly a wonderful island with friendly, warm people, lots of animals, produce farms and a great place to spend our winter. The winery, not far away, had an oyster roast a few days after we came to the area. We got to taste some great wines and spirits along with the oysters and got a feel for the area every early on. We loved the Terrace Theater not far down the road and made weekly trips into Charleston. Traffic was not too bad at this time of year and were able to get almost everywhere with-in 20-30 minutes or so. Our dog, Miss Maxine, loved the beach at Kiawah, we loved the galleries, restaurants and access to wonderful fresh seafood."
