  • Perfectly at home!

"This was our 4th visit to this beachfront home but our first Fall visit. The house is fully stocked and so comfy. You'll feel like you're home. Just bring a small bag of clothes (laundry room with suds) & some groceries (no spices, oils, coffee filters or condiments needed). We love the summers with tennis, turtles, porpoise, Olympic size pool, fresh seafood, all within walking distance & few people. The Fall is a breathtaking new experience with Bald Eagles, a wood burning fireplace but fresh seafood, beach walks, tennis, horseshoes & volleyball year 'round. This is our home away from home."

  • Happy on Harbor Island

"We chose Harbor Island to host our annual family reunion and we couldn't have been happier to have chosen "Sailfish" to do so. The bedrooms were large and beautifully appointed. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary gadgets, which easily accommodated 14 people with plenty of dishes, glassware, and utensils. The favorite feature of the house was its upstairs game room. It occupied the kids ranging in age from 6 years to 22 years old with board games, pool, and fooseball. We rode bikes, swam in the community pool, and explored the island on the golf cart. The kids couldn't wait to wake up for our daily adventures! Laura gave wonderful recommendations regarding restaurants, shopping, and local activities. She was a great communicator who truly wanted our stay to be a good one. I would highly recommend "Sailfish" to anyone looking to stay in a home away from home."

  • Harbor Island Yellow Beach House

"We really liked the "Yellow House" as it has been referred to by others. It was just as described with ample everything that was needed by us during our stay . Things we really appreciated (being that we are a family with 6 children that cooks in, is: *abundant and functional cookware in the kitchen - new fridge that by the way, never ran out of ice:O), plenty of linens for everyone!, the cleanliness and comfort of the home was exceptional, and the view was very nice! So easy to get to and from the beach - yes, not really beachfront, but so much closer than 2nd row (in reality, we have rented oceanfront homes that have not been as close to the water as this home is) This home truly is "steps from the beach" - only taking seconds to walk from the door to the beach front. We did find that high tide is the best time to go to the beach to enjoy the best sandy bottom...Loved the wall of windows allowing the sun and views to dominate. Thank you again for the use of your lovely home!"

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
