  • Great place to stay

"This condo was VERY comfortable and conveniently located. The kitchen was well equipped and all the appliances are fairly new. The queen bed in the master was quite comfortable. The place was clean and tastefully decorated."

  • Fantastic Relaxing Month!

"Thank you, Julie and family, for sharing your lovely condo with us. The photos are a true representation of this condo. The two of us spent the month of March relaxing on quiet, peaceful Harbor Island. You furnished your condo with everything we needed for the month. I loved the wonderful framed photographs and prints; they added to the overall feel of being by the ocean. This was our first trip to the South Carolina Low Country, and we loved the area. We had only to drive short distances to find new and interesting areas to explore. We loved Johnson’s Creek Tavern because it was close to the condo and visited it several times. Even though the month was fairly cool, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking at the marsh and ocean. We liked walking along the beach, but we were glad we’d been warned to watch for high tide; the beach disappeared! We thank you for the pass to Hunting Island State Park, another marvelous place to walk along the beach. We loved visiting Beaufort to see the South we had only read about. We did have one problem, but the management company had someone out to fix it the same day we reported it. That is fabulous service! Everyone we met was friendly and willing to help us. We recommend this condo for your relaxing vacation!"

  • Massachusetts Escapees

"This was our first trip to Harbor Island and the condo and area were even better than advertised! The only negative was the weather......very cold for almost the entire month but gave us pleny of opportunities to explore! We loved Hunting Island , Beaufort, and the great restaurants especially Johnson Creek, Foolish Frog, Plums, and Q on Bay! The condo was huge and the view the best in the complex......we think! We would definitely like to make a return trip!"

  • A wonderful vacation home

"This is the second winter I have spent in Puffin Place and will be coming back next winter. As soon as I walked in I knew it wasn't the typical rental property but a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with a personal touch you don't often find in a rental. It was spotlessly clean, and the kitchen has absolutely everything you could possibly want. The gas fireplace is wonderful on the cold winter mornings. The furniture is very comfortable, unlike many rentals. I love to watch the sunrise over the ocean from the east porch and then the beautiful sunsets over the salt water marsh from the west porch. It is a short walk to the beach where I enjoy the vast variety of bird life and long walks on the beach. I also enjoy all the books, games, and videos they have. I especially like having two separate living areas so my quests and i can watch different TV shows without having to go to one of the bedrooms. I highly recommend Puffin Place for a wonderful vacation."

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
