  • Family getaway

"Great house for large family. Everything was clean and well decorated. Loved seeing the owls off the back porch. Our only problem was we couldn't find the pack n' play that was listed on the web site. However, Harbor Rental was great and brought one over for us. We will definitely consider this cottage again! Thanks for a wonderful week!"

  • Isolated area - Fantastic views

"This was our third stay in Harbor Island and we really enjoyed the isolated, wooded area of this house. It was a quick ride to pool and beach by golf cart. The view of the ocean was great from deck (which not many houses in area can claim). House was clean and offered everything we needed. Smooth and quick interactions with property manager whenever needed - would definitely return."

  • Extraordinary Beachfront Rental

"We just returned from a weeklong, Spring Break vacation at the Round House. The property is truly exceptional! Not only is it directly on the beach, but the house also has 180 degree views onto the water. It's large and well-equipped. Even with our group of seven (two teenagers and five adults), we had plenty of room! There are multiple living spaces on different floors and plenty of bathrooms for everyone. We spent our mornings watching the sunrise from the deck, walking on the beach, and reading on the beach with our feet in the sand! In the afternoon, we would walk to to the community pool for a swim. We also took advantage of the sand volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts. We loved how peaceful the island was and enjoyed the wildlife - dolphins, alligators, hermit crabs, pelicans, cranes, shrimp, etc. My only complaint about our vacation was that we couldn't stay longer! The round house is a extraordinary property that I would HIGHLY recommend to other renters."

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
