  • Wonderful!

"My husband, 4 year old son, and myself just returned from a week at this rental. We loved it! We were there a little off season so it as a little damp a couple days. We used those days to do a little sight seeing (Hunting Island Park, Parris Island, Sheldon Church). The villa was very comfortable and convenient. It was easy to unload and load the car since its on the end and there's just a few steps to go up. Even though the villa is not right on the beach its a nice easy walk (even for a 4 year old) to the beach. The washer & dryer in the villa was so convenient. I didn't have to pack as many clothes as I did. The bedroom was large enough we could put a toddler cot at the foot of the bed for our son. We cooked most of our meals at the villa and got the most amazing seafood (blue crabs, shrimp, and scallops) from Gay Seafood, just down the road. We are definitely looking forward to come back (hopefully soon)!"

  • Great house, Great location.

"Just got back from this amazing place in Harbor Island. First the house is really nice and it is also huge there were 14 of us and we never felt cramped even on family taco bar night were everyone was in the kitchen at once. The upstairs was a kids paradise. The golf carts were great for getting around the Island. The house is well maintained. The owners were an easy contact by email or phone and responded very quickly. The house is located in a really cool area on the island if your late to go to bed or an early riser look for the huge owl that lives in the area spotted him/her a couple of times. Need stuff for the beach it's there towels, chairs, when you come back use the outside shower to get the sand off. The beach is amazing it is quite and calm and you can walk out for what seems like miles in the morning. Watch for Dolphins right off shore afternoons were the best for watching for them. Great week Great stay. The kids made the beach club their second home. Harbor Island is very quite and freindly it starts with a wave at the gate and waves from everybody the whole time your there. It is a great place to unplug and RELAX!! My kids loved the talks at the community center they are now members of the Turtle Team. Be sure and check out the Tavern on the Island the Sea Food is Amazing. Be sure to check out Beaufort while your there some very nice shops there."

  • Fantastic Home and Island!

"We reserved our stay at the Marshmelon quickly and easily for a long weekend over Spring Break on Harbor Island. It was our first visit to both the house and island, and we were very happy with both and plan to return soon. Having to come home wasn't as exciting, but it was really cool to have our deposit back by the time we got there (we took advantage of the PayPal option both for payment and deposit refund). The house is pretty, well decorated, cozy, and in a configuration that would have easily accommodated a larger family or group (next time we will be inviting other family and/or friends). The back decks on the 2nd and 3rd levels face the marsh and are great for catching the sun set in the evening. The game rooms, bikes, and golf cart on the lower level all got a lot of use during our stay. From the house, you can get to multiple beaches on this island within minutes via bike or golf cart. There is minimal traffic on the island and people are rather few and far between on its beaches. You can also be at the neighboring islands in no time to visit various attractions and restaurants. We didn't come close to running out of things to do, and didn't have to go out of our way to stay entertained or to be fed very well. We had one minor issue while there, and Diane was very attentive and responsive we reached out to her for assistance. She went above and beyond to make it right and we appreciated the service very much. We highly recommend this house and can't wait to come back."

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
