  • Great view!

"My family of 5 and my parents stayed here. We had enough room for the 7 of us. The house was very clean when we arrived. It had everything we needed for the week (kitchen things, towels, linens, etc). The view from the back porch was absolutely wonderful. Even sitting under the house, you could feel the best breeze coming off the marsh. Another plus was being able to walk out the front door to the pool! It was perfect for our 3 children! The golf cart was a definite plus...especially for my parents. My only recommendation is that the mattresses need to be replaced (one twin and the Q). BUT...it was okay for a week! Overall, we would stay here again. Everything was exactly as described!"

  • Great vacation!

"We had such a great time on our vacation! There were tons of things to do for the kids (ages 1 to 9). The house was beautiful and perfect for our family of seven (four adults and three kids). We loved being so close to the beach and pools and everyone in the neighborhood was friendly and relaxed. The golf cart rides were an added bonus. And our dog especially enjoyed the beach at low tide. One tip - bring STRONG bug spray if you go in late August!"

  • Gorgeous views!

"My husband and I and our two wire fox terriers spent a relaxing week in this condo and couldn't have been more pleased. This was our 8th trip to Harbor island, and we can't imagine a more relaxing vactation. This condo is beautifully decorated and has wonderful panoramic views from the corner unit screend porch. The king size bed is extremely comfortable and the master shower is absolutely wonderful! We did have a little trouble with the WIFI connection periodically, but it may have been an issue unrelated to the condo and an issue with the provider. Starter supplies are provided but if I may make a suggestion, it would be nice if they included both salt and pepper, sugar, a small amount of coffee, and possiblly some olive oil. I think folks would appreciate having those basics even though they will ultimately be providing their own supplies for the stay. The kitchen appliances are top notch and the kitchen is well equipped with cooking utensils. All in all, a very lovely condo to enjoy a wonderful stay on beautiful Harbor island!"

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
