  • Very peacefull get away!

"My family really enjoyed our stay at this condo. Everything was exactly as represented. We are a family of four with two teenagers. The kids slept on the pull out couch, and my husband and I slept in the master bedroom. The condo has one shower, but two bathrooms, which meant no one had to wait and all the girls could get ready at the same time. The kitchen is well appointed. We ate breakfast every day at the condo, and packed a lunch for the beach most days. And we even ate dinner in twice. I was even able to bake cookies. The condo has everything you need to boil seafood, make pasta, etc. All the linens were super quality, the bed was very comfortable and the environment was relaxing. The wifi in the area is something that you must purchase, and it is very weak, so if you do need to have contact with the outside world I recommend bringing a mobile hot spot. The beach is a private community, there is no commerce on Harbor Island. Which makes the beach very peaceful and private. There is an extreme difference between high tide and low tide. There are breakers off shore, so the waves are very tame. This is a great beach for young children because the surf is not rough. But even my teenagers had a good time swimming, and could boogie board when the tide was coming in. Mostly they just had a good time looking at all the sea life. When the tide goes out there are tidal pools and we saw sand dollars, star fish, lots of hermit crabs, fish, even a small baby shark. When the tide came in the dolphins swam with in 10 yards of us. We enjoyed walking along the beach. We also had fun flying a kite, the beach was not too populated so we could fly a kite with out worrying about it hitting anyone. The one day that it rained we drove to Hilton Head which is 45 minutes away, and did some outlet shopping. I promise you will not be disappointed if you lease this vacation spot!"

  • Wonderful Family Reunion

"My husband's siblings are spread all over the country. We had not seen each other in 2 1/2 years. I found the Pink House on VBRO and it was perfect. We are 5 couples so each one had their own bedroom. The kitchen, dining and living area was perfect for meals together and time to play games and talk. Sitting on the front porch enjoying our coffee and fellowship watching the dolphins with our binoculars, was a real treat. Evening walks on the beach and visits to Beaufort also added to the fun. The trip is one we will remember for a very long time."

  • Awesome Vacation

"This was nicely decorated with plenty of extras to make a comfortable stay away from home. . As one would imagine, it was clean and fresh.I'm already wishing we were back at the beach! This condo is a great option for families especially for the price. Condo was furnished with all the necessities. It is in a very quiet complex and had a pool directly behind the unit. Unfortunatley I had some work to do but with the owners handbook, I had easy access to the internet and completed my work beachside."

  • Kansas Travelers

"Our unit was neatly cleaned and comfortable, close to the beach and the view of the marsh fascinating during the high and low tides. We enjoyed the Hunting Island pass where we collected seashells. We also traveled to various locations in the area on day trips and Harbor Island was a wonderfully relaxing place to be between our excursions. It is a very quiet and private resort."

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
