  • Awesome Vacation

"This was nicely decorated with plenty of extras to make a comfortable stay away from home. . As one would imagine, it was clean and fresh.I'm already wishing we were back at the beach! This condo is a great option for families especially for the price. Condo was furnished with all the necessities. It is in a very quiet complex and had a pool directly behind the unit. Unfortunatley I had some work to do but with the owners handbook, I had easy access to the internet and completed my work beachside."

"My husband and I loved our stay at Harbor Island! It was amazing! The beach was so private and just perfect for us. Our condo was perfect and was so neatly decorated. Our condo\ villa was only like a 4 minute walk from the beach. We enjoyed biking on the beach. Our condo came with 2 beach cruiser bikes which were awesome! We saw dolphins while walking on the beach one night! We went to hunting island for a day which is the next island over and loved all the lush vegetation and jungle like scenery. We also toured the light house there and the view from the top was amazing! We visited Savannah for a day, only 1 hour away, and also went to Charleston for a day, 1.5 hours away. Harbor island is only 15 minutes from Beaufort, SC, and we loved waling the streets, seeing the beautiful Spanish moss draping from the trees, and seeing all the amazing, old houses and mansions! The city of Beaufort was probably our favorite to just explore! If u love history, nature, and want a place to just relax and get away from all the tourist traps, Harbor island is the best place! May is also a wonderful time to go!"

  • Wonderful!

"My husband, 4 year old son, and myself just returned from a week at this rental. We loved it! We were there a little off season so it as a little damp a couple days. We used those days to do a little sight seeing (Hunting Island Park, Parris Island, Sheldon Church). The villa was very comfortable and convenient. It was easy to unload and load the car since its on the end and there's just a few steps to go up. Even though the villa is not right on the beach its a nice easy walk (even for a 4 year old) to the beach. The washer & dryer in the villa was so convenient. I didn't have to pack as many clothes as I did. The bedroom was large enough we could put a toddler cot at the foot of the bed for our son. We cooked most of our meals at the villa and got the most amazing seafood (blue crabs, shrimp, and scallops) from Gay Seafood, just down the road. We are definitely looking forward to come back (hopefully soon)!"

  • April visit

"We found the place cozy, well supplied with bathroom and kitchen essentials and a great location to view the marsh and ocean. We brought dogs and it was a perfect place for them as well. The propane fireplace was perfect for the cool, damp times. The only criticisms we had were 1) there was far too many pots in the kitchen which made it cumbersome to store it all in the cabinets, etc. 2) we would prefer to have the master bedroom on the first floor with the king bed there for more privacy and the view. Definitely is was a tranquil place and very quiet. We love the area as well"

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
