  • Perfect condo, perfect beach!

"Just wrapped up 4 incredible days on Harbor Island in this beautiful condo. It has been updated beautifully with all the amenities. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary pots, pans, dishes and utensils. The deck off the living room was perfect for enjoying meals and taking in the scenery. The leather couches are very comfortable for curling up to watch a good movie, and the swing on the deck off the bedroom was an added great touch and the perfect place to watch a beautiful sunrise. The bed was very comfortable too. The boardwalk to the beach was convenient and we basically had the beach to ourselves the entire time! Hunting Island was a great place for a good walk and to get close to nature, and Beaufort in probably the best "old south" town I've ever been to. Would highly recommend Dockside and Wren for good seafood, and a walk through the St. Helena cemetery is a must. I'll be booking a summer trip to Harbor next week!"

  • Relaxation destination!

"We enjoyed our stay at this cute and clean place. It had direct access to the ocean along the boardwalk and through a marsh setting. The owner was very accommodating for us as our reservations were made the morning of our arrival date and then we decided to stay an extra day, too. She made sure that we had no problems in checking in and then extending our stay. We had such a relaxing time on the beach. The pass to hunting island was nice to use as well. Thanks for a great place to stay!"

  • Wonderful condo in paradise!

"We had a wonderful time in our little condo!! The screened porch was a wonderful way to start your day with breakfast and coffee at the nice high table looking out at the ocean. It was also the best way to end a perfect day gazing at the stars and enjoying the quiet only Harbir Island can give. The condo was neat and clean and the upgrades made since our 1st stay there were nice. A new sofa bed a new tv and new carpets! We took advantage of the pass to hunting island which is a wonderful place to visit. Our only complaint is our stay wasn't long enough. The beach and pools were perfect! We even go to see turtles make there way to the water the morning we left with the help of the Harbir Island Turtle Patrol! Probably the best thing I have ever seen! We will definitely book again in L206! Thanks for the great stay!!"

  • Happy on Harbor Island

"We chose Harbor Island to host our annual family reunion and we couldn't have been happier to have chosen "Sailfish" to do so. The bedrooms were large and beautifully appointed. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary gadgets, which easily accommodated 14 people with plenty of dishes, glassware, and utensils. The favorite feature of the house was its upstairs game room. It occupied the kids ranging in age from 6 years to 22 years old with board games, pool, and fooseball. We rode bikes, swam in the community pool, and explored the island on the golf cart. The kids couldn't wait to wake up for our daily adventures! Laura gave wonderful recommendations regarding restaurants, shopping, and local activities. She was a great communicator who truly wanted our stay to be a good one. I would highly recommend "Sailfish" to anyone looking to stay in a home away from home."

Harbor Island Travel Tips

Harbor Island is located 15 miles outside the city of Beaufort, South Carolina. This 1,400-acre barrier island offers visitors an escape from busy lives and a private island where they'll find peace and quiet. The island is famous for oat-covered sand dunes and coastal grasses.

Harbor Island Attractions

The resort itself has three outdoor pools, tennis courts, a putting green and three miles of sandy white beach that will give you the privacy you've been looking for in a vacation. When you spend a day out in the sand and sun, the kids will enjoy building sandcastles and splashing in the water while you catch some rays and enjoy a good book.

There's plenty of wildlife you're likely to encounter during your stay in Harbor Island. Whether you want to go for a walk along the marshes to check out the pelicans, egrets or herons, or watch the dolphins play as you relax among the sand dunes, you'll be amazed at the creatures you'll see roaming the land.

Hunting Island State Park is located near Harbor Island and an isolated spot to enjoy peace and quiet. This 5,000-acre barrier island was previously used as a hunting ground, but has since been converted into a state park. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen as well as four miles of beach, a maritime forest and a saltwater marsh. The quiet retreat is also home to a 19th century lighthouse and is the island's most popular attraction. You can climb to the top and get beautiful views of the coastline.

Things to Do in Harbor Island

Seafood: The catch of the day is the perfect dish while staying in Harbor Island. Be sure to check out some of the best restaurants in the South Carolina lowcountry including Johnson Creek Restaurant and Tavern, Bella Luna Cafe, LLC, Foolish Frog, Magnolia Bakery Cafe, MoonDoggies Cafe And Grill, Panini's Cafe and Saltus River Grill. You may even want to consider buying some fresh seafood and take it back to your Harbor Island vacation rental to make your own feast.

Outdoor recreation: Playing on the beach is the top outdoor activity for visitors to the island. Kids can learn a new trick on the boogie board, or you can try it out yourself. Rent a kayak and paddle your way out into the water and gasp at the breathtaking views of the seemingly endless ocean or the community along the shore.

St. Helena Island: Just across the bridge from Harbor Island is St. Helena Island. The island is home to Penn Center, one of the first schools that was opened to children of freed slaves. It's also the site of where Martin Luther King, Jr., drafted his "I Have a Dream" speech. There are several shrimp docks on St. Helena Island and much of the agriculture is still cultivated by native residents that descended from the island's original inhabitants. Head to downtown Frogmore where you can shop, dine and visit local art galleries.
