One of South Carolina’s biggest draws is its delightful year-round climate. Classed as having a humid, subtropical climate, many snowbirds and retirees choose to spend their winters along South Carolina’s shores. Temperatures are cooler on the coast than inland in the summer, with sea breezes tempering the 90 F (32 C) weather often experienced further inland. Cold snaps during the winter may see temperatures drop below freezing occasionally but the days remain pleasantly warm averaging 60 F (16 C) even in January. The state gets some rain throughout the year but it is heaviest in late summer when up to five inches may fall in short but heavy showers.
