  • Gorgeous condo, great owner, wonderful beach!

"This property was more than what is written. The owner is an absolute joy; informative, responsive, great housekeeping, and the condo is beyond affordable. I happened on this unit in a last-minute dash for a beach vacation and was initially wary of the ease and location. But it was not warranted. The space is clean, kitchen items provided, short trip to Savannah for a day trip, and the beach is a 2 minute walk which is spent mostly in the hallway to the stairs. I highly recommend this unit to anyone seeking to truly relax on a quiet beach. And to the owner, thank you very much for your hospitality!"

  • Casual, Comfortable Family Getaway

"Nestled on beautiful Fripp Island, this property is the ideal getaway for two or a larger group seeking a clean, comfortable home. The reverse plan means the open concept kitchen, dining area and living room offer a fabulous view of the Salt Marsh. It also means the master bedroom with ensuite is separate from the other three bedrooms on the first floor; a perfect set up for entertaining overnight guests or lively teenagers. With access to Fripp Island's two Link Golf Courses,Tennis Courts and access to boat and kayaking privileges, this destination home is perfect for the sport's enthusiast or fisher. For nature lovers or birders, Fripp is a wildlife and bird sanctuary. Why not cruise to the sandy beach in your cart or watch one of the amazing sunsets from The Point. This home and Fripp Island is our number one getaway destination!"

  • Otter House

"We had a nice time at the otter house. As other reviewers have indicated the house is pretty basic. What is lacked in glamour it made up with the quiet and peaceful location that allows you to get away from it all. The golf cart was a fantastic feature. It made getting to and from the beach a snap and was out vehicle for gator watching. By the way, hole #13 on the golf course is a great place to see some big ones. Our kids enjoyed the stay. It was also close enough to Savannah for a nice day trip. We would recommend the Otter House to others."

  • Great place to stay on Fripp

"We enjoyed this lovely home so much for our week on Fripp Island. We traveled with 3 of our children, 2 teenagers and one almost. The layout was great. Roomy comfortable bedrooms upstairs with great decks off two of the bedrooms and a very comfortable living space on the main level. We enjoyed cooking meals in the well stocked kitchen and watching movies and basketball in the evenings. There is a great selection of movies and books. The bikes and golf cart were wonderful and we used them frequently to travel around the island. We really appreciated having use of the gas grill as well. Nancy was so helpful. She made sure we had all we needed for pleasant stay and offered great suggestions for how to enjoy our time in the area. We had a great week."

Low Country & Resort Islands Travel Tips

The coastal islands and low country of South Carolina are truly unspoiled and naturally beautiful. With quiet sandy beaches, marshes alive with wading birds, some of the best championship golf courses and charming towns to visit, the South Carolina Low Country is hard to beat. Many people who come here on vacation end up retiring to this lovely area due to its mild winters and gentle pace of life.

The Pros and Cons of Low Country Vacation Rentals

Whether you are looking for a quiet beach escape or a livelier resort such as Hilton Head Island, you will find plenty of vacation homes and condos to choose from. Although they do not have room service or a daily maid to clean the bathroom, they do have other advantages which may outweigh the small negatives. Vacation rentals are more spacious even than expensive hotel suites. The furnishings are to a high standard and you can watch cable TV and videos from a comfortable sofa or armchair, rather than sitting on the bed. Kids get their own rooms and better still, their own bathrooms. A fully fitted kitchen makes dining-in a money-saving option, unlike a hotel room. Vacation rentals often have a private balcony or terrace for sitting outside and some offer hot tubs, play areas and swimming pools on-site, making them the ideal option for flexible family vacations.

Low Country Beach Rentals Make the Perfect Base for Family Vacations

South Carolina has plenty of things to see and do for all the family. Choose a beachfront rental and the children will spend hours shell-hunting, digging in the sand, and playing in the sea. Larger resorts offer windsurfing, jet skiing, surfing and snorkeling. The coastal estuaries are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Rent bicycles and leisurely explore the byways and trails on two wheels. Book a half-day fishing trip or boat trip. Towns offer plenty of restaurants, cinemas, theaters, shopping and antiquing. Beach rental homes are the perfect ways to enjoy quality time together as a family, building long-lasting memories to treasure.

Places to Visit Around South Carolina’s Low Country

There are a host of delightful places to visit within easy reach of your vacation home. Savannah is a beautiful and historic city just over the border in Georgia. Further north is the delightful and historic waterfront city of Charleston. Take a horse-drawn carriage tour and learn about its fascinating history. Beaufort is a waterfront artists’ community with a charming collection of historic homes. Head for the harbor where fishing boats will be moored. The Shrimp Festival in early October celebrates the local cuisine with live entertainment and some great food. The ACE Basin Refuge is a bird-watcher’s paradise where numerous birds pass through on their migratory route. See painted bunting, songbirds, herons, birds of prey and osprey along with plenty of local wildlife. The Hunting Island Lighthouse is one of the many which were built along the South Carloina coastline. You can even climb to the top for the best sea views.

Getting to South Carolina’s Low Country

The nearest airport in South Carolina is Charleston International Airport which is 49 miles from Beaufort and a little further from Hilton Head Island vacation rentals. Alternatively, enjoy the scenic roads and drive to your South Carolina Lowlands vacation home.

Low Country Condos are Perfect All Year Long

One of South Carolina’s biggest draws is its delightful year-round climate. Classed as having a humid, subtropical climate, many snowbirds and retirees choose to spend their winters along South Carolina’s shores. Temperatures are cooler on the coast than inland in the summer, with sea breezes tempering the 90 F (32 C) weather often experienced further inland. Cold snaps during the winter may see temperatures drop below freezing occasionally but the days remain pleasantly warm averaging 60 F (16 C) even in January. The state gets some rain throughout the year but it is heaviest in late summer when up to five inches may fall in short but heavy showers.
