  • Jacqui

"This was a very nice location. The house is beautiful, the area was quiet. The first night there we had a family of deer pass by the back of the house. The children were excited to see the deer. Even though the temperature outside was very cool we actually caught fish in the lake (small mouth bass). We had a wonderful time, enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this property."

  • Guys Weekend

"We came to this house for a guys weekend, and it was GREAT! We brought kayaks and used the canoe there to explore and play on the lake. We fished, cooked, and relaxed - just what we needed. The house was awesome...it has nice rustic architecture with an open feel with plenty of room for large parties (we had 8). Yet you could always get away from the crowd if you needed your own space in the bedrooms. The location was also great! We ventured out to Highlands, NC, was close to the Chatooga river, and saw Issaqueena falls and Stumphouse tunnel. The owner was always an email away if we had any questions and answered quickly. (PS there isn't cell service there with Verizon, but we were allowed to used the house line for long distance at no extra charge - that was a big help!) Will definitely recommend this place to those looking for a great mix of peace and quiet and activities."

  • Peaceful cottage

"Very clean cottage with a perfect location for enjoying the lake. This was a last minute rental for us and the owners were extremely helpful and accommodating. The cove is perfect for swimming and fishing with access to the larger lake seconds away. We would like to return for another relaxing week at the lake."

Upcountry Travel Tips

South Carolina Upcountry Lodging in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains

Set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, South Carolina Upcountry vacation rentals are found in a wonderful location. The "Upcountry" is made up of the counties of Oconee, Pickens, Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg and Cherokee. Visitors to this unique paradise may wish to use Greenville/Spartanburg airport which is served by most major airlines. For those looking to drive here, the region has excellent major roads with I-85 running through the area, connecting to I-385. There are also several highways, such as US 123 (Calhoun Memorial Highway), US 25, US 29 and US 279.

The Upcountry of South Carolina has less subtropical weather than the coast, with hot summer temperatures averaging between the mid-80s to high-90s Fahrenheit. Winters fall below freezing but rain is more likely than snow.

Wonder at the Waterfalls of South Carolina

With at least 25 waterfalls around these South Carolina Upcountry lake rentals, visitors may find at least two vacations here are required to explore them all. Each and every one is well worth the effort it takes to get to them, ranging from an easy hike up to difficult climbs. The Brasstown Falls is a moderately difficult hike, with the reward of three waterfalls. For the more adventurous, head to Long Creek Falls. This 1.6-mile unofficial trail may not be well-marked but the 50-foot cascade is worth the effort. Those seeking a moderately easy walk will find the waterfall at the Station Cove Historic Site is a nice one to start with. An added bonus is the wonderful wildflowers and rare plants growing along the way.

Explore the Mountains, Parks and Towns

There is much to keep even the most demanding visitor occupied around South Carolina Upcountry lake rentals. The obvious attractions are the outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and climbing. However, there is much more on offer in this wonderful region. If visitors want a thrill to remember, the whitewater rafting is amazing! The State Parks here are all worth visiting, with great recreation activities, trails to be explored and lakes to be fished.

Among the many parks is Keowee-Toxaway State Natural Area. This area, with its incredible vistas of the Blue Ridge and woods brimming with wildflowers, rhododendrons, mountain laurel and more, is seriously breathtaking. Here, visitors can hike the trails through the 50,000 acres of undisturbed, protected land to view the 2,000-foot fall where the Blue Ridge Mountains lead to the Piedmont below.

No trip to South Carolina Upcountry vacation rentals will be complete without a visit to Devils Fork State Park. Why? Because it is the only public access to Lake Jocassee, an undeveloped 7,500-acre reservoir hidden deep in the Blue Ridge. This area is great for lakeside fishing, boating, and even scuba diving. While here, visitors should keep the camera handy; they might spot one of the black bears that live here. Hiking the nature trails, visitors should also keep an eye out for the bald eagles and peregrine falcons that swoop through the bright blue skies.
