  • Home in Custer, South Dakota

"This is the first time I have used VRBO to book a home for vacation and I would not hesitate to do it again based on my dealings with the owner of this wonderful home. The house was everything that we were promised it would be. The owners were super nice and available for any and all questions. This house is fully stocked with dishes, towels etc. All of the amenities of home! We very much enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and sat outside every single night. Not having cell service was the only down side but what the heck, who needs a cell phone while you are relaxing in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The home is VERY private but still close to town, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park (where we saw HUNDREDS of buffalo and it was so awesome)! There were five people in our group which worked perfectly. One more would have been fine but any more than that and I think we would have liked a third bathroom :) Overall, it was a wonderful location, beautiful property/home! We will definitely be back to the Black Hills again some day!"

  • Highly Recommended - Great location, great owners, great place

"Though it has been a couple of months since we've stayed, I've felt guilty almost every day that I haven't written this review until today. Earl and Judy are great owners who went out of their way to ensure we had a good time and knew everything there is to know about Custer. We were in the middle of a two week road trip from Atlanta - with this being the turnaround point - with our three kids aged 7.6 and 4. We had no trouble finding the place and were greeted warmly upon our arrival. They both walked us through the house and then left us with a dizzying array of things to do in and around Custer that were seemingly tailored just for us and our circumstances (young and restless kids). The cabin itself was exactly as advertised and, in conjunction with the owners' hospitality, is worth all the 5-star reviews it gets here."

  • Four perfect visits

"I just arrived home from a week long stay at the Big Horn Lodge, and as usual, it was perfect. This property has everything except the groceries, and the views from the porch could not be better anywhere in the Hills. Cannot wait to go back."

  • The absolute best spot for seeing the Black Hills of South Dakota

"My husband, his sister and her spouse spent a whole week here in August. Very clean, and everything was provided: more cooking utensils than you could possibly need, a microwave, washer & dryer (and detergent), large frig, coolers we used to take cold drinks along for the day - everything. All you need to bring along is your clothing and toothbrush. The whole cabin is decorated in a rustic décor, complete with elk head mounted above the fireplace. There is plenty of parking, even if you have a trailer. Behind the cabin/house is a 40-yard mowed path to the Michelson Trail, and great Rails-to-Trails project that goes 109 miles. I walked most mornings, and saw lots of deer, turkeys, and one woman saw a coyote. The scenery is beautiful! The cabin is ten minutes max to Custer State Park, 15 minutes to Crazy Horse Monument, half an hour to the Mammoth Site, and about an hour from Sturgis. We were there the week after Sturgis, and all the shops in Custer had their t-shirts reduced quite a bit. Be sure to stop in at the owners grocery store, and right across the street is my favorite, "A Walk in the Woods", with the prettiest restrooms I've ever seen. The pizza shop right down town was terrific, with lots of seating outside when the weather is nice. The only negative was no internet, but my brother-in-law brought along a device that enabled us to get on each day. Good cell phone reception for Verizon users. Having two full-sized bathrooms was wonderful, and there was plenty of sleeping space for at least 7, not including 3 couches and two recliners. The folks in the community were extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!"

Custer Travel Tips

Nestle into the Black Hills with Custer Vacation Rentals

If you want a stunning, private, wilderness vacation then look at Custer cabins; find the perfect vacation home for you and your family, and come to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Your cabin will provide you with all the amenities you need. Instead of staying in a stuffy hotel room somewhere in town, why not try a cabin, tucked away in the rolling hills and towering pines? With a full kitchen, bedrooms, and living space for the whole family, you may not even need to go into town!

Stroll Downtown Historic Custer

There are many fun and interesting activities in Custer, however, so take a few days and explore the historic town. Visit the Courthouse Museum and learn about Custer and the surrounding areas. Dine at one of the restaurants downtown or do some shopping. You can rent horses at one of the nearby stables, or you can bring your own horses. Several of the Custer vacation rentals have corrals, tack sheds, and stables available for your horses.

See the Black Hills up Close and Personal

There are many attractions close to your Black Hills lodging. Go to Bear Country U.S.A, and you will find fun for the whole family. You can drive through the wildlife park and see the native animals wandering free in their natural habitat. You can also visit Baby Land where you can see bear cubs, wolf pups, and more cute and furry young animals. Go hiking or biking in the beautiful hills, or get up early one morning and experience the Black Hills from a totally different viewpoint. Go for a hot air balloon ride and catch a glimpse of buffalo, elk, Mt. Rushmore, and scenic rivers and lakes. You can even experience an old fashioned cowboy chuck wagon dinner with great food and entertainment.
