"We (husband and wife) spent 7 nights in Dot's Vacation Cottage and found it a very good "basecap" for our exploration of the Black Hills: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Custer State Park. The cottage was well-stocked with cleaning and personal care products of all kinds, a blow dryer, cups and plates and pots and pans, as well as some food basics, a big screen tv and dvd/vhs player (and tapes and dvds), a boom box. and a couple fans. It was nice to come home each evening to a quiet, spacious cottage with comfortable beds. We only needed to run the air conditioning a few days (and never at night!). The wife loved the gazebo for her early morning prayer time. And we watched the City of Custer Fourth of July Fireworks from the front yard of the cottage. Being a mile west of town meant we could see the blanket of stars overhead, but we were close enough to walk into town each morning to get the daily paper. The well water took a little getting used to, but Dot provided more than ample bottled water for cooking and drinking. We used the "fluff and fold" laundromat The Lost Sock that Dot recommended and were quite pleased with their services. Although Custer is a small town it has a wide selection of good restaurants and two grocery stores that we patronized."

"The location and house were perfect for our needs. The description and photos totally describe what you are getting. As others have mentioned, sitting around the firepit at night was our favorite part. Easy distance to all that the Black Hills have to offer. All the tips the owner gave are spot on. The home has everything you will need. Every morning we were entertained with chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels playing around the house. Deer grazed on the property daily. We even spotted a red fox and a bull elk from the front porch. I can not think of one thing that could have made our stay any better. Would definitely recommend and rent again if the opportunity arises."

"We loved this place. As others have said, Mark and Donita really need to put some more pictures on this page as the interior and exterior both are beautiful. We were out here on our motorcycles and spent every day riding the black hills. The cabin and the property are wonderful. Secluded, peaceful yet close to town. We saw deer in the yard every day. The place is wonderfully equipped for anything you need and Mark & Donita checked in on us to make sure we arrived ok, had what we needed, and even provided some old rags to clean our bikes with. The kitchen/dining/great room was a great place to unwind in the evenings. If you have kids, the downstairs provides a great place for them to get away and do their own thing. The only things that I would have liked different was if the upstairs bedroom had a door (it has curtains) and if the bathroom and bedrooms had some kind of latch to keep them closed.
Thanks, Mark & Donita for letting us enjoy your little piece of heaven in the Black Hills. If we get back that way this place will for sure be the first property we check out to stay."

"Great choice for a family to stay. Very clean and even had small soap, shampoo and conditioner to use. Had everything to cook meals and the full size refrigerator was great. We made a fire in the beautiful fireplace in the evening and I read my book in the recliner next to it. So relaxing after a day hiking at Custer State Park! Just a 15 minute drive to the city of Custer. Enjoyed a piece of pie at the Purple Pie and had a burger at the Black Hills Burger and Bun Co."
