  • Traveling with teens

"Quiet, secluded, very comfortable, clean and away from the touring crowds, this mountain retreat was perfect for my husband and me with our two teenaged nieces. Yes, you will have to drive almost 3 miles off of Hwy 385 on a winding, mostly gravel road with some steep inclines to get there, but a good location for touring all the Black Hills sites. The owner was very responsive to our needs. I'd recommend it to a friend."

  • The Perfect Place in the Perfect Place

"Imagine a fun-packed day experiencing all the Black Hills has to offer and then coming "home" to a peaceful, quiet, serene setting built in the middle of whispering ponderosas. That's what you'll experience in Bruce's home in the foothills of Rapid City. The home has everything (and then some) to make your stay just what you wanted. The property adjoins government land so you can use that in addition to the spacious yard. We enjoyed nightly fire pit gatherings, watching the deer and wild turkeys come and go. We had 3 children in our group of nine and they had ample room to explore and use their imaginations inventing games in the yard. I personally enjoyed the hammock when the down-slope winds would kick in early in the evening. The younger crowd enjoyed relaxing in the large and immaculately clean hot tub. Bruce's house has everything you would need and is as neat as a pin: ample towels; lots of cooking utensils; an indoor/outdoor music system; washer and dryer/ and enough maps and local information to make sure you see what you want to see. Bruce is currently enlarging his home, but the construction doesn't affect your stay whatsoever. It will be amazing when he finishes it I'm sure. Speaking of Bruce, he is the nicest and kindest person to deal with. He's as honest as the day is long, and will ensure everything is done right. We checked in with his manager, Lindsey, who was also incredible. She met us to check us in and showed us all the ropes. She also returned to check us out. The home was perfect for three couples and three children. Privacy was never an issue and everyone had his/her own space. You owe it to yourselves to stay here because I frankly will remember the family times we spent in the cabin more so than some of the things we did in the area."

  • A quiet oasis in the vast prairies!

"Wow. We knew this place would be special; it is truly unique. It is within sight of the Black Hills (you actually can see Mt. Rushmore with strong binoculars from the back "yard") and really just a few miles off the main roads to all major sites- from Hot Springs to Custer- and yet so isolated that one really feels away from all the tourism in the area. We got here after a week camping and were thankful to spend some stormy nights in this SPACIOUS, original space. We were 7 (3 adults and 4 kids) and had enough room to literally gallop down the main corridor. Beds were comfy, rooms large, and the decor truly authentic western, with lots of family ranch/ horse/ Native American memorabilia. The bathrooms are separated into guys/ gals and within each are 2 shower stalls, 2 sinks and 2 toilet stalls. It was like using a camp bathroom but within a beautiful home! We loved the quiet and absolute peace of the area around the bunkhouse, as well as the careful attention of the owner. We would love to return one day!! Note: for those needing absolute privacy, the walls in each bedroom stop about 1-2 feet before the ceiling so loud conversations can be heard from one room to another. We had no issues with this and found the kids couldn't hear us talking if we hung out in the main living room/ kitchen area."
