  • Beautiful, Peaceful

"What a great place for a vacation! Spent a week at this wonderful cabin, touring during the day on our Harley's all the South Dakota sights. Evenings spent deck side enjoying the beautiful view, grilling and watching deer and listening to the Spearfish Creek. Great accommodations, everything we expected and more. Dave was extremely helpful, a great owner. Made us feel like this was home away from home and was always concerned about our comfort and available to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Would return here in a heartbeat. Spearfish Canyon is spectacular, trout stream right out the front door, two waterfalls in walking distance, Latchstring restaurant close by with great meals and near all major South Dakota sights (Mt Rushmore, Custer St Park, Black Hills, Devil's Tower, etc). Can't go wrong with this little piece of paradise in the Black Hills!"

  • The place to stay!!

"We spent just over a week vacationing in South Dakota. 6 of those nights were spent at Kathleen and Wolfgang's Little Elk Cabin. WOW. This cabin is amazing. It felt like home. It was comfortable, quaint, affordable, private, and had absolutely every comfort we needed from cooking utensils to a washer and dryer. Myself, my husband, and our three children stayed during this visit (ages 10. 7. and 3). The cabin is spacious and accommodated us very easily. Upon arrival Kathleen and Wolfgang walked over to introduce themselves and gave us some wonderful ideas and recommendations of places to visit. They are fantastic. Little Elk Cabin is the place to stay!"

  • Charming house

"What a lovely charming place! I am still in there in my thoughts. The house has a very warm and southern atmosphere, the owners did an excellent job decorating the interior and the backyard. We have enjoyed our evenings cooking in the kitchen or barbequeing outside and the garden offered fresh herbs to our taste. We did soak in the jacuzzi one night gazing at the stars. I highly recommend the property to travelers that would like to be close to Mount Rushmore."

  • Exactly as pictured.

"We stayed here for 2 weeks in June. The house is clean and exactly as pictured. The owner is responsive to questions. It is within easy walking distance to downtown Deadwood and a very pretty drive to attractions in the area. Easy drive to Devils Tower in Wyoming. Nice breakfast place across the street but the kitchen has everything you need to cook. W/D a very nice feature. We would definitely stay here again if we would be in the area."

Black Hills Travel Tips

Lose Your Heart to the Black Hills of Dakota

Two words sum up the Black Hills region of South Dakota--awe inspiring! The abundance of wide open space, breathtaking views and fascinating history, combine with the many options for day trips and year-round activities, making this place a wonderful vacation location. Visitors to Black Hills cabins may find the regional airport at Rapid City a convenient option. However, the region provides excellent roads with interstates such as I-90 and many state highways.

The Black Hills area has long, hot, dry summers and winters with lots of great snow for a variety of winter sports and activities.

The Black Hills are Full of Awe-Inspiring Scenery

Whatever time of year, the Black Hills offer endless activities along with the awe-inspiring scenery. Whether it’s the hiking, biking, golf, climbing, ATV tours, or hunting, it is all here, right outside the doorsteps of Black Hills vacation rentals. During winter, come for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and much more.

Whenever visitors come, it is the scenery that makes the Black Hills special. From visiting Mount Rushmore, the Devils Tower, forests, Sylvan Lake and the Badlands National Park to seeing the still-in-construction Crazy Horse Monument, it is a region of breathtaking beauty. In Custer State Park, spend a morning hiking, then stop for a picnic and watch the buffalo as they roam across their land. You can also see prairie dogs at play and wild horses.

While visitors enjoy the incredible activities and scenery that surrounds them, there is another not-to-be-missed experience beneath their feet. This region is rich in caves to explore, with equally incredible sights, such as Thunderhead Underground falls where an enormous subterranean waterfall awaits the adventurous visitor.

The Black Hills Area for a Home Where the Buffalo Roam

Black Hills vacation rentals in towns here are part of American history. The main city is Rapid City which is an excellent base for trout fishing. It is also a great place to visit the Dinosaur Park where prehistoric creatures are scattered along the skyline. Dating from 1875 and surrounded by thick Ponderosa Pine forests, Custer City is the oldest city in the region. This city is perfect as a starting point for mountain bikers and hikers to access the trails in Custer State Park. The famous city of Deadwood is also a national historic landmark, with its historic buildings, saloons and museums. Here, the western tradition of shoot-outs still remains, although now it is just for show. While here, visit the graves of the Wild West heroes such as Wild Bill and Calamity Jane at Mount Moriah Cemetery and pan for gold at one of the local mines.

Homes Where the Kids can be Cowboys

These Black Hills lodging options are all about quality. Whether visitors are seeking a town base or one out in the heart of the wilderness, you can find it here. Whether it is a large property with a bunkhouse for the kids or a small, cozy romantic hideaway, visitors will find a great selection of fantastic properties. Each is unique and not just equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, but much more. Owners go more than the extra mile to ensure that visitors find luxurious surroundings to make their vacations extra special. Many welcome dogs. Even visitors seeking to bring their horses on vacation will find a variety of rentals come with stabling capabilities.
