  • Little Elk

"This place was just as cute as was shown by the pictures. It was cozy and was set back from the road...just down the road from beautiful Dalton Lake and surrounded by national forest with a completely wooded backdrop. There were linens and towels and kitchen was fully stocked, which was convenient. The location was within 90 minutes of all of our points of interest in South Dakota, which made for great sightseeing opportunities daily."

  • Family Reunion

"We had a family reunion of eleven people ranging in age from 12 to 75 from Connecticut, Iowa, Washington DC, Canada and Rapid City. We were able to accommodate everyone with a bed (one person slept on the hideabed in the living room). Beds were comfortable. The two loft queen beds and the hideabed are in the traffic pattern from a bedroom, not as private as a bedroom. One of our members has a mobility problem, and he and his wife slept in the downstairs bedroom next to the bath/laundry. The unit is not wheelchair accessible, but he was able to climb the few steps into the house. The stairs to the upstairs are fairly steep, so it's best to assign the king sized bedroom and the two loft queen sized beds to those with good mobility. The 12-44 age group enjoyed bicycling the Mickelson trail, riding from Crazy Horse down to Hill City. We used the hot tub a couple of times. (We had some cool and rainy weather, so weren't outside as much as we had hoped.) The cookware and appliances were adequate for our "hands on" cooking style. Location was great- easy to get to Hill City, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse etc. Staff checked on the hot tub every day, and were helpful when we had questions. Cell phone reception was spotty, so we used the land line to make reservations and local calls. Internet service was adequate (a little slow, but we were on vacation!)."
