  • The absolute best spot for seeing the Black Hills of South Dakota

"My husband, his sister and her spouse spent a whole week here in August. Very clean, and everything was provided: more cooking utensils than you could possibly need, a microwave, washer & dryer (and detergent), large frig, coolers we used to take cold drinks along for the day - everything. All you need to bring along is your clothing and toothbrush. The whole cabin is decorated in a rustic décor, complete with elk head mounted above the fireplace. There is plenty of parking, even if you have a trailer. Behind the cabin/house is a 40-yard mowed path to the Michelson Trail, and great Rails-to-Trails project that goes 109 miles. I walked most mornings, and saw lots of deer, turkeys, and one woman saw a coyote. The scenery is beautiful! The cabin is ten minutes max to Custer State Park, 15 minutes to Crazy Horse Monument, half an hour to the Mammoth Site, and about an hour from Sturgis. We were there the week after Sturgis, and all the shops in Custer had their t-shirts reduced quite a bit. Be sure to stop in at the owners grocery store, and right across the street is my favorite, "A Walk in the Woods", with the prettiest restrooms I've ever seen. The pizza shop right down town was terrific, with lots of seating outside when the weather is nice. The only negative was no internet, but my brother-in-law brought along a device that enabled us to get on each day. Good cell phone reception for Verizon users. Having two full-sized bathrooms was wonderful, and there was plenty of sleeping space for at least 7, not including 3 couches and two recliners. The folks in the community were extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!"

  • The Best!

"Our family was able to spend four relaxing days at the River Ridge Lodge. The lodge was so cozy, very clean, and the perfect place for us to be together. We enjoyed the wrap around deck every night. It was the perfect place for adults to gather when the kids were asleep. The lodge is located very close to the Missouri river which was so nice for me as I have a small baby. I could come and go from the river with the baby, allowing for naps, but still able to be part of the boating activities. The owners are terrific people, very accommodating, and willing to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone who wants a relaxing break from life. You will come back feeling refreshed! It was the best family vacation!"

  • Great place to relax after a day of hiking

"My grown children and I met at this rental as a get-together vacation. I had read the reviews and was not at all disappointed. It is a very clean house and the kitchen contained everything we could possibly need and a whole lot more. My basic need was relaxation as we hiked during the day and (I) came home tired. My girls cooked a few meals in the morning and in the evening, and although they like to cook, IF I asked them, they loved the hot tub! Even the first night they by-passed the snow that was still around, and headed to that beloved place. We also loved the wi-fi, the large screen entertainment area, and the washer & dryer was nice to have - we had plenty of beds and everything we needed. I would highly recommend the Great Pines for anyone; it's in an excellent location - close to sites and close to return home."

  • Bow hunting adventure

"Fantastic cottage and property. Kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms and living area were all immaculate and well stocked. Doug and Denise were very friendly and accommodating. Having the owners nearby turned out to be a blessing. We had a minor issue with our vehicle and Doug helped us out. Thanks again Doug! I would definitely stay at "The Cottage " again and I will recommend this property to my family and friends."
