  • Home Away From Home

"This was our first experience renting a home and it was great! So much better than a hotel room. This home was cozy and inviting and in a great location. We loved all the pottery, artwork, etc. Thanks, Marie!"

  • Great Home for Exploring Big Bend

"This is our second time to stay at Rancho Mula Oso. Both times we were a large crowd and the house and "Bunkhouse" accommodated all of us. We like this home because of the large living area/dining area that allowed all eight of us to enjoy our meals or spread out to enjoy multiple "game" stations. The kitchen is large for getting meals together. The house is well stocked so you do not need to bring any extras. Bottled water is provided so we did not need to stock up on that as well. The house is very close to Study Butte and Terlingua and about 25 minutes to the entrance of Big Bend National Park. It was a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking. We prepared our meals before we arrived to Big Bend so that we could shower and then relax on one of the many outdoor sitting areas while the food was in the oven. We never ran out of hot water while showering either. The place sits on many acres with stunning views of the mountains. We were able to experience beautiful sunsets right off the front porch. And they have the best star gazing chairs we have ever sat in. Rancho Mula Oso is actually someone's home so it is personalized with many artifacts and paintings that we never grew tired of exploring. Every day we would spot something new. The owners have the house stocked like they would want to have it so we never needed anything extra (lots of towels, blankets, fans, kitchen items, etc). There is also a washer and dryer if needed. Janet and Daryl were very easy to work with and attended immediately to any issues that came up while we were there. We really enjoy this place and we will be back."

  • Laughing Horse is one of our favorites.

"Our group - 4 couples has been traveling together for about 15 years now. We are all in our 60s, are all experienced travelers and all professionals. We started late looking for a place to stay for this year's trip to Big Bend and got very lucky here. We wanted/needed a place that would sleep 8 in comfort Note, we also rented the guest house. Two more would have been a little crowded, but would have been doable. Price was very affordable. We needed to be close to Big Bend National Park & have room to eat and to hang out as a group. Everything was very clean and neat. The kitchen worked for us. We cooked evening and morning meals for the group with no problems. The patio had plenty of seating for our group. We did not use the grill, but it looked capable. The night sky was incredible (this is one of the darkest places in North America for observing the night sky). Views of meteors & The Milky Way were fantastic. Lots of cacti on the hillsides all around the property. The manager answered all inquiries in a timely and pleasant manner - Thank you. We plan on doing this VRBO again. Loved it."

  • Excellent Vacation Home Outside Big Bend

"We stayed in this property for several days on our vacation to Big Bend and loved our time. I would love coming back to this area again and staying in this property. The house is spacious with 2 living rooms filled with couches/chairs, a kitchen and a dining room, 4 bedrooms, and 3 baths. Our party of 9 was slightly larger than what the property officially sleeps, but even with someone sleeping on one of the comfortable couches, we still had more than enough space. The back porch and yard were great for hanging out and star gazing and even for eating when it wasn't too cold. There are TV's in one of the living rooms and in one of the bedrooms, however they are fairly old. This property could use a little TLC (some cracking and loose tiles on the floor, and one of the bathrooms that connects two of the bedrooms has a pretty significant "soft" spot/indentation in the floor) but it's certainly nothing that can't be overlooked and was never a bother or a worry at any time. Even though you have neighbors, the property is nicely spaced out to give you plenty of privacy. We drove into Big Bend every morning and spent the days hiking, and we loved having this place to come back to. There's a small grocery store in town where you can get most of what you'd need. Bottom line, this is a reasonably priced, cool and spacious property in a good location if you're looking to spend some time in the Big Bend area."
