  • Casa Riata

"Our stay was great at the Casa Riata, Ellie accommodated us on short notice for a funeral. Everything went smooth from start to finish. The home has so much charm and history,we felt right at home. Plenty of room for everyone and space for kids to run around outside. We hope to be back soon when we visit family. Ellie, Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Edward Ulate, Odessa TX."

  • Great "Home Base" for Big Bend Family Vacation

"This vacation home was the perfect fit for our family vacation in the Big Bend Area. It's a pleasant <10 mile drive south of Alpine and just enough off the road to give spectacular views and peace and quiet. We had everything we needed for the retreat that we were looking for--quaint, spacious, updated house with beautiful features and very nice touches, close enough to sites and shopping, but far enough away for quiet and stargazing (or moon gazing) at night. During our week, we visited the Museum of the Big Bend (at Sul Ross State University), the observatory at Ft. Davis, the swimming hole at Balmorhea, Marfa (of course), ghost town at Terlingua, Lajitas (with the goat mayor), Big Bend State Park, and Big Bend National Park. Alpine (closest town to the house) is plenty big for everything we needed (groceries, drugstore, etc.), and has its own charm and character as well, with plenty of local favorites (CowDog!) and interesting sites to see. We were pleasantly surprised to see not only fresh-picked flowers put out for us at the house, but also fresh eggs from Marfa. We felt like we had been welcomed into a friend's home, not some anonymous hotel. We made plenty of use of the games, books, and cookware provided (and learned to wonder how we had made it this far in life without a cast iron griddle). We would return to this retreat in a heartbeat, and are already trying to figure out when we can make that happen!"

  • Great trip to meet my grandson!

"We had a great trip to El Paso to visit my son, daughter-in-law and new grandson! Also our granddaughter from a previous relationship. She stayed with us and 2 other granddaughters at the property and they had a great time. The home is clean, well furnished and had everything we needed. The owner and her son both were friendly and helpful. The home is completely fenced, including the parking area for your vehicle. This was our second stay at a VRBO property and find it much preferred over staying at hotels."

  • Quiet neighborhood, great place to stay while visiting Big Bend and nearby places ...

"We had a great time visiting Marfa, Big Bend, McDonald's Observatory, Balmorhea State Park, all day trips from the house. It was neat and cozy. Had a fully stocked kitchen, a washer (no dryer), two full baths with showers meant to quickly get in/get out type (meaning, hot water runs out quickly :). However something needs to be done about the showerheads or maybe it is due to lack of water pressure. That is my only complaint! And although a single story house - each room seems to be on a different level (step here and a step there) - will take a little getting used to. Also you can park outside or you have to move the wire mesh to park inside. Mosquitoes and houseflies got in - although we are were conscious about closing the doors behind us. But this is summer and we are in Texas. It is to be expected. Again I am not taking any stars for these - that is this house's character. Great house. Whoever gets to stay there will I am sure like it as we did. Erin was awesome. Called back promptly every time. And yes, we will definitely stay there again the next time we are in that area."
