  • Let's go again!

"If you have a peripatetic spirit filled with curiosity and optimism, Hillcrest Lodge is your gateway to the wild and beautiful Trans Pecos area of Texas. You’re smack-dab equidistant from historical attractions in all directions. Visit the Val Verde winery in Del Rio, the remote rivers of the desert, and the astounding, utterly breathtaking petroglyphs from the prehistoric past that cover the canyon walls. Frank is an interesting, wonderful host, and his clean, well-stocked and spacious Lodge provides all you’ll need for a relaxing stay. The Texas Parks and Wildlife visitor center is just across the highway down the hill! Imagine…A yard full of wildlife under the feeder, beyond which are panoramic views of Lake Amistad out the front door and the ever-changing light and shadows on the mountains in Mexico out the back door. Mother Nature presents a different show with every unworldly sunset! I was reminded of T.S. Eliot’s line from The Wasteland. “I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the bottom of silent seas.” Tranquility, silence and perfect peace."

  • Very Nice

"Nice. clean, comfortable, well-equipped room. Great location for exploring Big Bend, Davis Mountains, Marfa, and surrounding areas. Highlight was Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens just 20 minutes north. Also great birding at Balmorhea Lake where we saw a bald eagle, pelicans, kingfishers, grebes, and several other species not usually found in the desert. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay here again."

  • LA

"We rented this home in order to accommodate family members coming to town to celebrate a promotion-so it was important to have everyone in one spot. This home was perfect! The owner was amazing!! He greeted us warmly, oriented us to the home & even went out of his way to make our stay more comfortable with little complimentary items. Those little extra "niceties" did not go unnoticed. The home was fully equipped with everything that we needed for our stay. The family continuously commented on how well thought out the accommodations were. This was a first class operation & we are grateful for having the opportunity to stay in this home. I could go on and on praising our stay, but I know long reviews usually go unnoticed. So to keep it sort, we highly recommend this home if you are looking for the best."

  • Yearly getaway

"As always, this place is an oasis of peace and tranquility. We go down to this area for the abundant number of stars in the dark sky and to visit the Observatory. We love this cabin. Our first stay was in Oct 2000, and it nremains a favorite to this day."
