"This place was exactly what we needed - a base camp for our motorcycle adventures with plenty of room for truck & trailer. We loved the history of the home and all the antiques. The beds were very comfortable and hard to leave. Janet was wonderful to help us out with suggestions and answering all our questions. Definitely a great place to stay."

"We had a great holiday weekend relaxing in Marathon. The house is wonderful. Great location because it's tucked away and remote, but only a five minute walk to town. It was a good jumping off point for days in Big Bend. We loved that it is dog friendly. The only thing that would make the stay even better is if the kitchen had a few more cooking utensils to make it easier. But really no complaints. And the view was fantastic four morning coffee or evening woke!"

"We stayed there last Thanksgiving and had a perfect time. Close enough to Big Bend, great views and great sitting areas all around the house. I also liked the feel and the tasteful decoration of the house.
The views from the back of the house are wonderful as the pictures show and the best view is from the bathtub at sunset: priceless !"

"We loved each and every minute at beautiful La Esmeralda where our days here were measured by sunrises and sunsets; reading and napping on the glider; the soft rustle of the breeze through the Cottonwood; candlelit dinners on the screened porch; relaxing in the comfy living chairs each evening with a glass of wine, listening to great CDs by candlelight with the cool spring breeze dancing between the front and back screened doors; sitting in awe under the vast starry night skies and crescent moons; the sounds of silence only interrupted by the song of the birds and the gentle rumble and whistle of the train.
We enjoyed the friendly, sleepy town of Marathon, and a four hour hike in nearby Big Bend National Park, but we were so happy to return to this beautiful home where we rested and breathed deep! We thank the owner for sharing her home with us, her warm hospitality, and making our stay so wonderful - much love, peace and the good things of life reside at your La Esmeralda. We are under her spell. It was hard to leave, but we are already planning to return to this lovely, peaceful retreat next spring."
