  • Nice Home

"This is a nice home. It is spacious and comfortable. The patio is wonderful as well as the hammock in the back yard. The street is quiet and there is a grocery store nearby. Not a fancy house, but it is clean and well kept. It is a large house and the price is right. The rental company is easy to work with. We will be staying here again as our group takes frequent trips to El Paso."

  • Perfect!

"What a fantastic place to stay! The Hummingbird is extremely well furnished, the kitchen had everything we needed (including really good, locally roasted coffee), the bed was very comfortable, it was a nice quiet location, and the whole place was so clean. It's also in a great, central location for touring around to Marfa, Ft Davis, and Marathon. We couldn't have asked for an easier rental!"

  • Wedding weekend in Marfa

"We spent a wonderful 3 nights at the Marfa Guest House for a wedding. The house is perfect for families, with 4 sizable bedrooms (one with twin beds for the kiddos). Big, well-stocked kitchen and big living room made for a great home away from home. Also a major plus, the house is as far away as you can get in Marfa from the train. My family members who stayed in downtown hotels were woken up several times by trains going by at all hours, while we slept soundly and peacefully. It is a short bike ride or nice walk to town. Highly recommend the house."

  • Great for a big family!

"This was a comfortable, spacious house - we had two families (with 4 teenagers and 2 small children) and appreciated the blow up mattress. We would definitely stay here again. It is a well-cared for home."

Big Bend Country Travel Tips

Experience Natural Beauty at Big Bend Country Vacation Rentals

Big Bend Country sounds like something out of a western novel. In truth, what you'll find there is probably not far from your imagination. Located in the remote southwestern part of Texas, it is so named because it is the territory surrounding a vast curve in the Rio Grande River. There are two states and national parks, offering outdoor recreation activities. In total, the region covers more than a million acres of public land. It's the perfect place to escape to from busy city life and enjoy the beauty of nature. Outdoor enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice deciding which activities to do on a daily basis.

Getting to Big Bend Country

The primary way to access Bid Bend Country is by road. Even then, it's a lengthy drive and you need to know where you are going. The two main towns are Alpine and Marathon which can be reached off interstate routes 10 or 20 and then by following Highway 385 to Marathon or Highway 67 to Alpine. The nearest commercial airports are either Midland, which is a three-hour drive from Marathon or El Paso which is a four-hour drive from Alpine. Because the distances are vast and there is no public transportation system, you will need a vehicle to get around. If not travelling to Big Bend Country lodging in your own vehicle, you can hire a car from either of the commercial airports on arrival. An alternative to flying is to travel across the state by train to Alpine. The Sunset Limited Amtrak train stops in Alpine three times a week from each direction. It's a great way to start off a leisurely vacation and the train route takes you through some spectacular scenery en route. Once in Alpine, you will need to hire a car to get to Big Bend Country.
