  • College Reunion at the beach

"The Bungalow by the Beach was perfect for our quiet little three couple college reunion. We had one couple that has a 1 year old and they kept commenting on how great the layout of the house was. Lamar was great about letting us arrive a little early and leave a little late as we had flight schedules to work around for the weekend. The only thing was the kitchen wasn't fully stocked - we had to buy a colander and a cutting board along with a large mixing bowl, even with bringing a lot of our own equipment from the one person that lived in Texas. But that's from a big cook - so it likely won't be an issue for most people. Other than that the weekend was fantastic! The house was a quick walk to the beach, even with a stroller, and centrally located to just about everything - including church on Sunday morning (both Episcopal and Catholic) and the grocery store, restaurants etc. Our group is already talking about going back. We had a blast even though it was overcast - and we spent the majority of our time in the house!"

  • Race getaway

"We stayed in this house when we came down for the Santa Hustle Half Marathon and to meet some family for an early Christmas. The house is in a location that makes it very easy to get to the beach or the historic area. The house was very nice, and the kitchen was outstanding. Janet has everything you need there, and the small apartment out back was also nice. Janet was very cooperative with us and very good about answering any last-minute questions before our travel date. We really enjoyed the house and had a nice Christmas getaway. It has old charm with modern conveniences. We coul not have made a better choice."

  • So clean it even impressed my Polish mother!

"My parents (who are 80+ years old), my husband, our dog and I recently stayed at this property to celebrate our son's White Coat Ceremony at UTMB. In addition, we had other family members stay around the corner at the Sugar Shack and its downstairs unit which are other properties managed by Ron and Tony. Between the three properties, we had 12 family members and two dogs in our group. On check-in, Ron told us about all the great places on the island that are popular with the locals. We hit many of his suggested places and felt like we had a true insider experience. The location is perfect. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and two blocks from the Sea Wall, on a relatively quiet street. The cottage is immaculate and incredibly well-stocked. My mother (the clean queen) kept going on and on about how clean the place is, especially because it is a dog-friendly property. Our original idea was to rent hotel rooms at the Galvez. Renting the cottage (and the other two properties) ended up being less expensive and so much of a better experience. There are three wonderful areas to congregate in the cottage--around the dining room table (which seats 6), on the sofa/chair/bench by the TV, and on the front deck (which gets a fantastic ocean breeze and has a view of the Gulf). We so appreciated all of these areas in which different configurations of family members could comfortably relax and converse. Again, there are so many thoughtful details from the decor to the wine fridge in the kitchen (a favorite of my mother's). My only concern was the stairs up to the cottage. I was really worried about my elderly parents not being able to navigate the stairs. They related that it was not an issue--there are two very sturdy railings and they could easily hold on to both railings while ascending and descending the stairs. In addition to family time, the location is perfect for all sorts of activities. We ran on the Sea Wall, biked to the Bolivar Ferry, took the dogs for walks on the beach, walked to Shy Cats (a restaurant with amazing French toast)... It was great that so many different groups could do so many different things without having to worry about transportation. We often stay at VBRO properties. I agree with a previous reviewer that this is one of the best places we have stayed for its location, price, amenities and space. We can't wait to go back!"
