  • Great Location

"My Wife suggested a family trip to Galveston so I immediately came to VRBO to find a house. There were 8 adults and my 5 month old as well as my two small dogs. The 2 biggest things that made this house spectacular are the AC units and the Water Heater. I have no idea what the make and model is, but within just about 2 minutes of turning on the AC, you could feel some nice strong COLD air blowing in and cooling off the house. The upstairs has it's own separate unit that works equally well. While either trying to shower or wash dishes, we had HOT water within 30 seconds. It got hot quick. Now for the other bits. Kitchen: Nice and spacious. Open floorplan. There were an adequate number of plates, cups, silverware, etc. The appliances were nice and all worked. Living room: Also open floorplan with seating around the walls and a small coffee table in the middle. Downstairs Bedroom: Ceiling was a bit low compared to rest of house, but otherwise plenty of room for the bed and other things. It's right off the dining room. Upstairs bedrooms: The beds were all nice enough for something that isn't "your bed". The rooms were all ample enough for all of our things. Bathrooms: While the bathrooms were big, there are only 2 of them. So with 8 adults in the house timing was important. It helped that we were all family so nothing ever got awkward. Overall, it was a great place to stay. The whole time it felt like we were at some relatives house. Just a nice family gathering at a nice warm place. Location: This was about the best part. We were able to walk the 0.3 miles to the Pleasure Pier. Sure that's a real touristy place, but it was our first time to visit, so overall nice. Driving to any of the beaches OR the nice shopping part of the Strand is maybe 5 minutes. so even when you have to drive , you still aren't going far. About the only thing not close to the house is a supermarket. BUT, since it's not like we were making constant trips, just the first one upon arrival, it really wasn't that big a deal. Overall: We were all very happy with our stay, and if we ever go back to Galveston, this is a place we would want to stay at again."

  • lovely house, and a very nice town

"We had a great time in Galveston, lots to do and see. The house is beautiful and full of character, and close to the beach, and Pleasure Pier. The neighborhood is very nice and taking a walk around you feel you are in another century."

  • Why would you ever stay in a motel when the "Mermaid Cottage" is available!

"My husband & I stayed at the Mermaid Cottage for our 40th anniversary trip. The owners are so nice and can answer any questions about the area for you. They make you feel welcome and the cottage is nice and comfortable for 2 people, a home style setting. You can walk to the beach and downtown area easily for some fun adventures. We will surely stay there again on our next trip to Galveston, TX."

  • Beautifully restored historic home!

"This home was so much more than we anticipated. The kitchen was well equipped. The backyard was a beautiful oasis. We really enjoyed staying in the historic district. It was an easy walk to the Strand. Plenty of room and the furnishings were lovely. By the end of the week it truly felt like home."
