  • Took my breath away!

"The adjectives used to describe this home are not exaggerations: large, luxury, beachfront, breathtaking. I spent 2 weeks happily watching the tides and weather from the 180 degree view. One morning we watched porpoises hunting off the third sandbar for about 40 minutes - going back and forth before disappearing from sight. I could even see the bay from the dining room windows. Our extended family (parents, children, grandchildren) were charmed by the views and the comfort. The bedrooms were spacious, and each was attached to a bath - so convenient! And separation of bedrooms and the hurricane shutters made naptimes easier. The living room and dining room were perfect for our family - more than enough seating and open floor space for a large train layout. The kitchen was the best equipped we've experience at a rental; all the dishes, pots, & pans we needed, plus a great pantry space. Something not mentioned in the description was a nice discovery - the "sand-room" entry at the bottom of the stairs with a lockable door out to the carport area. An entry like that lessens the fear of children deciding to go to the beach by themselves. The bench in that area was helpful for changing from indoor to outdoor shoes, and the plaque marking the high water mark during Ike was impressive. The owner was a delight to correspond with; I liked dealing directly with the owner and feeling his love of his family's beach home. That's something you don't get when you rent from a property management company. Our family all agreed that "By the Sea" would be our first choice for our next vacation on the island."

  • Perfect beach house

"This is our second consecutive summer to spend a week here and we absolutely love it! My family is not easily impressed and we are impressed with this house! The downstairs is my personal favorite. The pool, the bar, and the 2 TVs just make this downstairs area perfect for lounging, entertaining or swimming. From fishing off the boat ramp area, to kayaking, to swimming in the pool or the canal, loved it all. My entire family can't wait to go back."

  • Redhatter

"This was our Redhatters third annual trip to Galveston and by far the best! Everything we needed for cooking was in stock.Plenty of pots, pans, silverware china, wine glasses and utensils! Benno's was our favorite cafe and was in walking distance as was Murphy's and numerous other places. There is a bike rental next door and we rented 2 bikes for 4, you find out real fast if you are out of shape! LOL We had a ball playing ping pong in the game room and the balconies are wonderful! You can take great pictures of the pleasure from there as well as the seawall and ocean. Just a walk across the street and you're on the beach! There is a beautiful garden out back! I highly recommend this property!"

  • Great Beach House

"The Bad - Mosquitos in Galveston at that time of year are plentiful. Certainly not a knock on the house itself but I wanted something negative to write. The Excellent - Everything else. - The Management. Dealing with Karen was a pleasure. She was prompt with replies and our deposit. We have rented though HomeAway before both for Galveston and other locations and I am glad we found her there. - Location. Being a long island, there is always some downside in our opinion to any location. Near town puts you near activities but away from nice beaches. This location made the downtown activities within a reasonable distance while providing a great beach location. - Accommodations - My wife and I rented the home and invited our two daughters and their families (five children with four of them being five or under.) The house had enough bedrooms to give us space yet main rooms were large enough that we could intermingle which was the goal of the trip.) - Ammenities - TV, games, beach toy, cookware and dishes were plentiful. We would have loved to use the porches but as mentioned the mosquitos are bad in early OCT. The proximity to the beach was great. Since we rent a place somewhere in Texas once or twice a year I looked up their other properties as possible future locations. Unfortunately they look to not be of sufficient size for our needs as I imagine they are nice like this place and as mentioned I liked working with Karen. Not sure when we will return to Galveston again but I see us as returning to this house some day in the future."
