  • Large Roomy Condo

"Just returned from South Padre with my family and stayed at this location. It's spacious we all had our own spots in the condo. There is two great pools to use and access to the beach is just a 10 min walk. When we arrived the condo had a starter of Paper towels, dishwasher detergent little travel bottles of shampoo in both bathrooms. A nice touch since I'm use to having to do the Walmart run first thing and with this we could breath for a bit before having to get supplies. Was nice to be able to walk to a few dining places. Try Gabrielle's, Marcello's on Port Isabel and Manuel's also on Port Isabel GREAT food!"

  • Still Our "Happy Place"!

"This was our second year to "stay awhile" in this condo; had two months to enjoy the paradise of SPI and this luxury condo that feels like home. The accommodations are even better than advertised and the owners are a joy to work with. Everything you need is there and then some! So much to do on the island...and the people are so laid back and friendly. We became "regulars" at our favorite restaurants and the waitresses would bring out our drinks as soon as they saw us! If you like Cajun, Daddy's is great! Sea food is everywhere, but our favorite is Dirty Al's down on the south end of the island. For a good, simple, inexpensive breakfast, Ted's can't be beat (they have pecan waffles!). We became fans of Paragraphs, the local bookstore. You will find the owners delightful and maybe even meet a local author while there. We had a series of books signed by the author while there. The only dolphin watch that we find worthwhile is through the Sea Life Education building right across the bridge in Port Isabel. You will be going with a Scarlet and her dog (perhaps her potbellied pig too) or her husband and his dog on a smaller boat with about 6 other folks and I promise you will see and interact with dolphins! They love her! Better hurry though, she's talking about retiring. Also, if you are a fan of Mexican food for breakfast, Manuel's in Port Isabel! This is a family run affair and if you are there in football season, please tell Manuel you like the Cowboys! (He is a Washington Redskins fan!) The tortillas are the size of small pizzas, so if you order a burrito, you will take half home probably. You can walk in the back and watch them being made in the mornings. There's also a great little seafood place on the same street as Manuel's, Joe's Crab Shack (I think)...looks like a store, but there are tables in back. Great food, great prices. Our best Sunday buffet was finally located at the Pearl! Also, Chef House, just a few blocks south of the condo also rocks! Fireworks on weekends through Sept. at Clayton's Bar and Grill....great atmosphere, live music and you are seated right in front of the waves. Ok....back to the condo, relax in the Jacuzzi tub or enjoy the multiple shower heads and in the huge walk-in shower in the 2nd bathroom. The bed is so comfortable and you can raise the light blocking shades and watch the sun rise from bed! The patio is conducive to reading, wave watching and sipping coffee or any other drink! Fabulous!"

  • Anniversary Fun!

"I havent been to SPI in a very long time and never before at such a nice place! Convenient to the beach is an understatement!! It is right there - Wake up and hit the beach. The condo is perfect. Two bedrooms plus a very large living area - although there were only 3 of us this time, we could easily have had our entire family! We liked the 2 bathrooms because we all wanted to get the sand off when we came in! The view is great with a huge porch that extends the length of the condo. Perfect for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. Nice kitchen which is well-stocked with the necessary items. It had a large dining table and bar stools as well. The only problem is....we can't wait to go back! And we will!!"

  • Great Unit, Great View, Great Facility

"Five other guests and myself stayed here for 4 nights this past March. The unit was secluded from the rest of the property and had an excellent view of the ocean from its three balconies. Even during the peak of spring break the unit was quiet and relaxing. There was plenty of dining and lounge space inside, though we spend most of our time on the beach, which was easily accessible. Each room had an HDTV and all the beds were comfortable. The security guards were all nice and friendly throughout the course of the stay. The property has two nice pools onsite and is approximately a 5 minute walk from a nearby beach bar."

South Padre Island Travel Tips

South Padre Island is located on a long strip of island at the very southern tip of Texas and has beautiful natural landscapes, year-round attractions and events that visitors from spring breakers to families will enjoy.

Nature Attractions

South Padre Island boasts several opportunities to immerse yourself in natural beauty and learn about the delicate coastal ecosystem:

Sea Turtle Inc. is located at the end of Padre Boulevard near the convention center. It is a conservation center committed to protecting all sea turtle species. Kids can learn how to identify each type of sea turtle, take part in crafts and learn about conservation efforts. If you’re here in the spring, this is a must-visit for watching as sea turtles hatch and are released into the wild.

The Dolphin Research and Sea Life Nature Center, located across the bridge on Port Isabel, is another great spot for kids and adults to learn about Gulf Coast sea life. You can get up close and personal with hermit crabs and starfish, or take a boat tour to see some dolphins. While you’re nearby, check out the Port Isabel Lighthouse.

Take a walk on the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, a stunning, 1,500 foot marshland boardwalk, to see coastal birds and get some exercise and head to the nearby Birding and Nature Center as well.

Beach Activities and Watersports

South Padre island is abundant in outdoor sports and activities. Here are some of the best:

- Take a sandcastle building lesson from Boomerang Billy’s on the beach.

- Visit Schiltterbahn Beach Waterpark on the southern end of the island. This sandcastle themed waterpark is a kid’s paradise.

- Visit the 40-acre Adventure Park at the end of Park Road on Laguna Madre Bay to rent ATVs to cruise along the beach.

- Ride horses along the scenic beach with the Island Equestrian Center - both amateurs and experienced riders are welcome.

- Take a boat cruise. Head out on The Original Dolphin Watch, take a cruise with Isla Tours, or take a sunset, snorkeling or dinner cruise with Southern Wave Sailing Charters. You can also rent paddleboats and kayaks from this watersports shop, located on the west side of the island off of Laguna Madre Bay, between the popular Tequila Sunset and Louie’s Backyard bar and grills.

Dining Options

South Padre Island has plenty ofcasual beach fare and local seafood options.

- For beachside casual fare, head to brightly decorated Pier 19 Restaurant, grab fried shrimp at Dirty Al’s on the Marina, check out Coconuts Bar & Grill off of Laguna Boulevard or hang out at Wanna-Wanna Beach Bar & Grill on the east side of the island.

- Grab a local brew and excellent burger at Padre Island Brewing Company

- The best spot for upscale dining in South Padre Island is the Sea Ranch Restaurant, which offers fresh seafood dishes and pretty harbor views.

In the first weekend of October each year, South Padre Island celebrates the annual Sand Castle Days, a 3-day event where you can watch master sand sculptors from around the world compete to turn sand into stunning works of art. There’s an amateur contest and arts and crafts for kids. Clayton’s Beach Bar and Grill hosts the event.

If you visit in December, don’t miss the Christmas Lighted Boat Parade. Locals dress their boats with Christmas lights and parade from Pirates Landing in Port Isabel to Jim’s Pier on South Padre Island. You’ll see everything from yachts to kayaks in this annual competition and winter celebration.
