Due to its constant level, the lake is perfect for swimming, boating, jet skiing, waterskiing, or fishing. The lake is connected to the Colorado and Llano rivers at Kingsland and visitors here may enjoy kayaking up the river for several miles. Close to Kingsland is an area known as "the slab," with a sandy beach for shelling, shallow water for padding, and a play and picnic area, making it is perfect for a family outing. There is also a launch area for boats and three docks, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the river.

The town itself also has great shopping and good family-friendly restaurants. Kingsland is also a great place for golfers, with two good courses--the semi-private Legends on the Lake LBJ and Packsaddle Country Club. Visitors here may like to explore the interesting ancient rock formations. Granite Shoals has excellent access to the late and is a popular for waterskiing, jet skiing and boating because of its excellent launch facility. It is also a great area for swimming and fishing. The exceptional scenery around Sunrise Beach makes this an attractive area that is very popular with boating enthusiasts. Visitors to Horseshoe Bay will find it a great area with lots of fun for everyone. There are three great golf courses and a Yacht Club with one of the biggest marinas in the state. It has a laid-back atmosphere and stunning views.

Visit Longhorn Cavern and Hunt for Fossils or Ghosts!

Lake LBJ vacation rentals are not all about the lake! Close to the area is Longhorn Cavern State Park. This is where visitors will find Longhorn Cavern, where thousands of years of river water have created a spectacular natural wonder. Here, visitors may be lucky enough to find a fossil of Ice Age mammals that once lived in the cavern or relics from its first human inhabitants, the Comanche Indians. During the Civil War, the cavern was used by the confederates to manufacture gunpowder. Local legend has it that the famous Texas outlaw, Sam Bass, also used this place as a hideout! Be warned, the cavern is said to be haunted! So much so, that brave visitors may choose to accompany one of the ghost hunts held here.

There is also the Canyon of the Eagles resort with over 14 miles of nature trails and outdoor activities. This is a great opportunity for a more leisurely activity, such as taking a river cruise.
