Bear Lake Vacation Rentals Are Where Utah Meets Idaho

Bear Lake straddles the border between Utah and Idaho. This beautiful lake area is accessed by US Highways 39 and 30 or 89 off Interstate 15. It is within easy access of Salt Lake City International Airport. With four distinct seasons, Bear Lake condos attract visitors all year-round. The area is the historic home of the Shoshoni Tribes and was a trapping area in the mid-1800s. It was first settled by Mormon pioneers in 1863 and the county is named after the group’s leader, Rich County.

The lake itself is some 20 miles by eight miles and has 48 miles of shoreline; at its deepest point, it is 208 feet. Bear Lake vacation rentals are close to three recreation areas--Bear Lake Marina, East Beach and Rendezvous Beach. The water of the lake is so intensely blue that it is nicknamed "the Caribbean of the Rockies." In fact, the explanation for the incredible color is the reflection from the accumulated limestone in the lake. In summer, the 70,000-acre lake offers activities such as swimming, boating and sailing. There are also areas with ramps set aside for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Visitors are welcome to bring their own watercraft or use rentals. It is also a popular spot for anglers with fish such as cutthroat trout and unique species such as the Bonneville cisco, whitefish and Bear Lake sculpin.

There are literally hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and using ATVs. Starting at Utah State Marina, the Bear Lake Scenic Bike Trail is over four miles of paved area ending at Ideal Beach. There is a raised wood walkway, Garden City Park Walkway, where visitors can study the markers telling the history of the area. Visitors may also want to hike the easy mile of the Limber Pine Trail through a 2,000-year-old limber pine. The reward for hiking or driving the Bloomington Lake Trail is a tiny glacial lake with waterfalls, set in the incredible cliffs. This is a particularly beautiful hike in summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom. The Highline Trail is accessible from various areas including the canyons of Bloomington, Paris, Emigration and Logan. This 55-mile trail is used for hiking, biking, horseback riding and motorcycles. During three of the four seasons, the weather is perfect for golf and there are plenty of courses scattered around the hillsides. Nature lovers will enjoy Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge, dedicated to preserving the local animal, bird and plants on over 18,000 acres. The area is also home to moose, deer and trumpeter swans. Those brave enough to venture underground will enjoy a walk through the spectacular half-mile long Minnotonka Cave.

In winter, Bear Lake vacation houses are ideal for a variety of fun activities such as snowmobiling over its 350 miles of trails, downhill and cross country skiing as well as ice fishing on the lake. Visitors at this time of year will find the Hardware Ranch area a great place to spot elk. The variety of terrains and trails make it a great place for those who love the snow.
