  • I stay here every year

"I've been coming to Kanab to volunteer at Best Friends since 2009, and I've been renting Juniper House once a year since 2010. It's large enough that I can share it with other volunteers and never feel crowded. The house is beautiful and great for parties! I love that it's within walking distance of several restaurants and only a few minutes from the sanctuary. After four years of coming here, it feels like my home away from home. I've already reserved it for next year!"

  • relaxing paradise

"We spent a week here and absolutely loved it. The casita contained everything we needed It is well located, within driving distance to The Wave, Zion, Bryce, North Rim, and Best Friends. The casita is close to town, yet very quiet and peaceful with a lovely yard and view. Great place to hang out with a glass of wine and a good book"

  • Great stay for familes visiting Utah's national park system. (Bryce, Zion)

"This townhome was perfect for my family of 5. (kids ages 12,15 & 16). The full kitchen (stocked with all small appliances and cookware that you would need) and washing machine/dryer were especially appreciated. The pool/hot tub were steps away from the back patio. We loved the "no key" entry system. Great for multiple people coming and going and no worries about lost keys. The beds/bathrooms were comfortable and inviting and the entire place was very clean. There is SO much to see and do in this area. We recommend spending 2 full days at Zion National Park and 1 day for Bryce. In Kanab, you must rent an ATV/hike the trail to Peek A Boo (slot canyon) and do the Kanab Zipline (minutes from town). My kids loved the caves located right on Hiway 89. You are allowed to hike in (you can see them from the side of the road). They are beautiful sandy caves that younger kids would love too. Avoid the terrible tourist trap that is the Moqui Caves and spend your time instead at the Animal Santuary. There is a free guided tour that lasts around 2hrs where you are with a guide on a shuttle bus with opportunities to interact with cats and dogs. This property is beautiful and my family hiked to the Hidden Lake Cave on the grounds. You must eat at Rockin' V's- it is hands down the best place to eat in town. (It is a little spendy but we knew this) I recommend saving $ by cooking food (2 nice local grocery stores) and splurging on this wonderful meal. The owner/staff were great with my kids . Very accomodating for vegans. The owner was a pleasure to work with. She gave us a terrific 7 day itinerary that we used quite a lot. She made an adjustment on an evening at the last minute and was VERY prompt in returning calls/questions. Highly Recommend"

  • Comfortable, convenient location for national park visits

"Well-equipped cottage (with a very nice patio) which we used as a home base to visit the awesome nearby national parks and monuments. We also enjoyed the location in Kanab which is within easy walking distance of grocery stores, restaurants, McDonald's, gas stations, small movie theatre, local interest shops, etc. The manager was reponsive and communicative and efficient, i.e., very good to work with. This is absolutely beautiful country!"

Kanab Travel Tips

Travelers to Kanab Vacation Rentals

Kanab has frequently been used as a filming location for western-style movies. It’s old historic district and dramatic backdrop of red canyon landscape have distinctly nostalgic feels about them. Many visitors to Kanab are just passing through on their way to Bryce Canyon or Zion National Park. The town is also not far from the northern part of the Grand Canyon National Park and serves as a good base from which to explore the area. People who enjoy the outdoors and the charm of the Old West will like staying in Kanab. It is often a recommended excursion for those visiting Las Vegas, particularly if they want to see more of the countryside.

Finding Your Way to Kanab Vacation Houses

Kanab is located in the far southwestern corner of Utah, just off the border with Arizona. The nearest major city is Las Vegas which is approximately 170 miles away. Most people will drive up from Las Vegas or from other parts of Nevada, Arizona and Utah. There are no bus lines or rail links that travel to Kanab but it does have a small airport which can accommodate light aircraft. Most people, though, will fly into Las Vegas and get a transfer from there or hire a car for the duration of their stay. Las Vegas International Airport is one of the busiest in the region and hosts both regional and international airlines from across the globe. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights that link Las Vegas with other major cities in North America and from across the globe.

Historic and Natural Attractions near Kanab Condos

Most of the historic attractions in Kanab are within easy walking distance in town. Start off with a visit to the Kane County Tourism Office where you can collect a brochure and map of the major sights in the town. You can enjoy a tour of the Victorian-style Heritage House which is provided in the mornings and afternoons during the summer months. The house dates back to 1855 and was once home to the town’s school teacher named Bowman. It has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is furnished with artifacts from the 19th century.

The Sixtus Johnson House is a single-story 1891 brick house. The original resident’s claim to fame is that his grandfather discovered Zion Canyon in 1858. The Lewis Jepson Home was known to be only one of two homes that had a bathtub. Its owner, Jepson, built the first movie picture theater in Kanab. Today, it is a local restaurant. The Bowman & Co. building was built in 1892 and is one of the oldest standing buildings in town. It was built by Bowman & Co. who at the time owned the town’s general store. Today, the building is home to the Cedar Post Pawn Shop. The Kanab Hotel was built in 1929 and played host to many famous western movie stars. It is now a trading store.

Take a short drive from Kanab and you can be exploring the wonders of Zion Canyon and Bryce Canyon National Park. There are several off-road routes that can take you to explore the park. For the more energetic, there are also several shorter hiking trails. The northern rim of the Grand Canyon is not far away and well worth taking a drive to see.
