Finding Your Way to Kanab Vacation Houses

Kanab is located in the far southwestern corner of Utah, just off the border with Arizona. The nearest major city is Las Vegas which is approximately 170 miles away. Most people will drive up from Las Vegas or from other parts of Nevada, Arizona and Utah. There are no bus lines or rail links that travel to Kanab but it does have a small airport which can accommodate light aircraft. Most people, though, will fly into Las Vegas and get a transfer from there or hire a car for the duration of their stay. Las Vegas International Airport is one of the busiest in the region and hosts both regional and international airlines from across the globe. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights that link Las Vegas with other major cities in North America and from across the globe.

Historic and Natural Attractions near Kanab Condos

Most of the historic attractions in Kanab are within easy walking distance in town. Start off with a visit to the Kane County Tourism Office where you can collect a brochure and map of the major sights in the town. You can enjoy a tour of the Victorian-style Heritage House which is provided in the mornings and afternoons during the summer months. The house dates back to 1855 and was once home to the town’s school teacher named Bowman. It has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is furnished with artifacts from the 19th century.

The Sixtus Johnson House is a single-story 1891 brick house. The original resident’s claim to fame is that his grandfather discovered Zion Canyon in 1858. The Lewis Jepson Home was known to be only one of two homes that had a bathtub. Its owner, Jepson, built the first movie picture theater in Kanab. Today, it is a local restaurant. The Bowman & Co. building was built in 1892 and is one of the oldest standing buildings in town. It was built by Bowman & Co. who at the time owned the town’s general store. Today, the building is home to the Cedar Post Pawn Shop. The Kanab Hotel was built in 1929 and played host to many famous western movie stars. It is now a trading store.

Take a short drive from Kanab and you can be exploring the wonders of Zion Canyon and Bryce Canyon National Park. There are several off-road routes that can take you to explore the park. For the more energetic, there are also several shorter hiking trails. The northern rim of the Grand Canyon is not far away and well worth taking a drive to see.

Seasons to Visit Utah Vacation Rentals in Kanab

Because of its arid desert location, Kanab has seasons of extremes. The days are hot and dry, and in wintertime, the nights can be freezing. The seasons of spring and autumn are generally the preferred seasons in which to visit the area.
