As it's just 55 miles from Salt Lake International Airport on I-15 and close to Ogden via I-80 and I-84 from Ogden, Powder Mountain, Utah, is an ideal location for a wonderful winter vacation. In summer, it is a great outdoor vacation area. In fact, it is perfect whatever the weather or whatever the time of year. The ski season is generally from the middle of November to mid-April.

Great Winter Sports and Great Summer Sports in the Same Location

Powder Mountain condos are within easy reach of the free shuttle to the slopes. The slopes have 124 runs over 7,000 acres on three mountains. It is a fantastic area for ski enthusiasts seeking excellent conditions with crowd-free slopes. It is also a wonderful place to take your first tentative skiing steps, with several areas dedicated to beginners. Experts will enjoy acre after acre of untracked slopes in areas such as Lightning Ridge and the great terrain of Paradise Lift. These backcountry and downhill areas are the adventurer’s dream. The skiing is not the only reason that so many people find this a great location. There is snowcat skiing, heli-skiing and great guided tours varying from easy to extreme. Of particular interest to visitors may be the locally known "DMI" tours. "DMI" or "Don’t Mention It" is the name for the tours to Wolf Canyon. This is the ultimate in guided tours, covering over 1,000 acres with a 3,000 vertical drop for the fearless! This tour requires a hike out to James Peak but once there, real ski enthusiasts will find it worth the effort.

During the summer months, the ski trails and backcountry become a haven for hikers, bikers and those who enjoy exploring the mountains on horseback. The Ogden River’s South Fork is a great place for trout fishing. Pineview is the place for sport fishing, where the local prize catch is a hybrid between a muskie and a northern pike, called a tiger muskie. These fish know how to challenge a fisherman! There are also species such as bass, bullhead catfish, crappie and perch to be caught.

Great Day Trips Around the Area

To take a break from all the activities here, visitors to Powder Mountain vacation houses may enjoy heading to Ogden to explore the many interesting outings on offer. The Eccles Community Art Center offers an interesting art collection in a beautiful old Victorian mansion. There is also Fort Buenaventura, the first white settlement in the state. The cabin was built in 1846 by Miles Goodyear and became a stop-off point for the pioneers heading out to California. Today, it is the site for Mountain Man parties. Visitors to George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park will find a great place for families. Children will enjoy the replica dinosaurs, sea creatures and flying reptiles from various periods such as Triassic and Jurassic. The Golden Spike National Monument is the historic location of the meeting of the two great railways, the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific, on May 10, 1896. This incredible feat changed the nation forever, making travel across the country much easier, quicker and less hazardous. The Hill AFB Aerospace Museum with its vintage aircraft and missiles makes for another fascinating day trip.
