Winter Recreation at Sandy Ski Lodging
Salt Lake City is a well-known ski destination and as a suburb of the larger city, Sandy is no exception. The Alta Ski Resort is open from November through April each year. The mountain area experiences an average of 500 inches of snow each year, resulting in ideal skiing conditions. There are more than 116 ski runs catering to all skiing abilities. Forty percent of the slopes cater to intermediate skiers and 35 percent to advanced skiers. The remaining 25 percent of the ski runs are suitable for beginners. The resort caters primarily to downhill skiing and does not really accommodate snowboarding.
There are 12 ski lifts in total, providing easy access to the mountain. In total, there are more than 2,200 acres of skiing terrain for visitors, including cross country and Nordic skiing trails. A resident ski school can help you hone your skills so you can get to enjoy some of the more advanced slopes. The Snowbird Ski Resort is also nearby, offering 85 ski runs open for both snowboarders and skiers. Most of the trails are for more advanced level skiers but there are still numerous trails that beginner and intermediate skiers can enjoy. The Utah Olympic Oval has an Olympic-size ice skating arena that is open throughout the year.

Because of the many ski resorts in the region and the consistently good snowfalls, the most popular time of year to visit Sandy is during the winter. Most of the ski resorts open from November and remain operational until the end of April. The peak travel season for skiing is during the months of December, January and February. During this time, the resorts can get crowded. In the summer months, the region can get very hot but it is still a popular mountain biking destination.
