  • Perfect Vermont Getaway

"We traveled up to the Northeast Kingdom for Thanksgiving and filled the house for the long weekend and enjoyed everything so very much. It is a spectacular place. I had not been there in 20-some years but remember it as a bit of paradise---and am happy to report it’s still one of the great pristine places in America. The Barn building itself is amazing, with soaring oak-hewn beams everywhere, and the acres of private grounds of fields and deep, quiet forests offer total privacy. Every day was filled with great things to do— from a 10K charity race the whole town turns out for, to group game times (Charades! Ping Pong challenges! Scrabble wars! Poetry reading competition!) and restful reading hours set around the majestic fireplaces in the Great Room and the huge kitchen. Let’s not forget the delicious cocktails and h’or d’oeuvres nightly, as well as cross country–skiing around the lake (yup, it snowed this year, nice white powder) and some lively games of pond hockey warmed by the fire-pit and steaming cocoa and marshmallows for the kids and hot toddys for the older generation. The kids were in heaven having fun. There was barbequing on the lookout patio, communal meal preparation in the gourmet kitchen, and truly wonderful meals served regally at the 20-person dining table. We went on long walks daily, too. The place was very clean, well-equipped, filled with very cool antiques (a 16-foot bellows, and antique sleigh, and massive wood and metal weigh scale as coffee table), and interesting to explore. Did I mention that the mattresses were the best we've ever slept on? All the beds have nice big duvets on them, very cozy. Baths are gleaming white and towels are whiter yet. The owners were warm and helpful and quick to answer all our questions in detail. We will definitely be back, and certainly recommend it most highly to anyone looking for the perfect Vermont getaway."

  • A bathroom to fit every personality.

"Arriving at the Battenkill mansion the first thought is that the side of the building doesn't quite reflect the image I'd conjured up in my head. Walking around front and through the front door into the foyer, past the baby grand piano and two incredibly comfortable chairs, the images and experience blend together. The space is magnificent - the online photos evoke more of a real estate transaction and in my opinion fail to capture the character that the space holds. A splendid character, to be clear. For a retreat centered on leadership development and environmentally focused participants, the dynamic space invites engagement - internally and with others - and creativity. That said, while I was personally comfortable with the space's intensity, particularly with regard to the art, there were some in our group who experienced the art as distracting. This particular person also came to some exciting revelations, which to me speaks to the power of experiencing discomfort. Logistically, the space was very clean, spacious and welcoming. Our group had 23 people during the days and we may have experienced a TP shortage towards the end. We couldn't find extra and have passed that info on to the inviting hosts who will ensure that it's addressed for future guests. Access to the commercial kitchen space, the freedom to explore and get comfortable was a big part of our group's enjoyment and productivity in the space. We're grateful for the level of trust and responsibility that's placed on guests and I hope the hosts would agree that it was respected. The posts's title reflects the diversity and number of bathrooms available. We MAY have fit upwards of 20 people in one of the tubs for both a photo and a mini-presentation. It's like having a popup meeting space available throughout the house... if only we'd held one in the third stairwell where Gorski prints are collecting dust (yes, it's that filled with art). Visitors have trails to explore as well as nearby attractions like the Lincoln home, farms, and the town of Manchester. The other buildings and amenities of the property are also available so our response to the VT summer weather was a dip in the pool at the Wilburton Inn, a short walk from Battenkill. If it hasn't been made clear in my description, yes I would encourage friends, relatives and certainly other retreat groups to stay in this space. I absolutely hope I have the opportunity to do so again."

  • Great place!

"We traveled over Columbus Day weekend. It was great. Communication with the owner was fantastic. The condo was great--very clean. The location was perfect--we hopped onto the recreation path right across the street to ride our bikes. The on site restaurants are super convenient. The Top Notch resort itself is aptly named. The indoor pool area was amazing, the outdoor pools and hot tub were excellent as well. The kids enjoyed both. We also loved the fire pits at the resort at night as well. It was a great trip and one that we agreed we would repeat as an annual one."

  • Topnotch escape

"The owner Barb was so helpful before and during our stay. She checked in when we arrived to make sure we were all set. Love that it is only steps away from the spa and pools! This was our second time back! Hope to come back next year!"
