  • Beautiful House, Beautiful Lake

"My family (wife, mother, stepfather, sister, Charlie our dog) and I had the opportunity to stay at this beautiful house at the end of August 2014. We had never been to this part of the U.S. It was a beautiful drive up from New York City. Coming from the south Isle La Motte is one of the more remote Champlain Islands and you have to cross multiple causeways. While the area is remote it is certainly not wilderness. On the other hand, it is not a place where you can drive a couple of miles and easily find a place to eat or buy groceries. The house has a great layout and it is perfect for the type of family trip we imagined. The large 1st floor living space and the open kitchen make for a perfect shared experience. The house has all the necessities and more in abundance. It doesn't have cable TV. For some of us this was a surprise. The property is right on the lake and going out on the deck and catching the breeze and the sun shining off the lake was a favorite thing to do. The deck was also the site for a memorable barbecue. We did some fun things while there: renting kayaks and rowboats, hiking around the Mt. Stowe area (admittedly a bit of a drive), eating out at the local restaurants (good if not great cooking). We were a bit disappointed by the lack of local farmer's markets and fresh produce, but perhaps, we didn't know where to go. All in all, while the area didn't WOW us; our consensus was the house and its comforts were GREAT and for that reason I've given 5 stars."

  • Spacious Lake Front Property

"I was there in late October with a group of women friends. We found the house to be spacious and comfortable. Decor was very pleasant. Plenty of seating areas both inside and out. Large, fenced yard for safety of children. Can walk or ride bike out the door as close to bike path. Plenty of sightseeing in the area. Only 6 minutes by car to large supermarket. "Camp" is a term used in Maine for a cottage. This wonderful house is more than a cottage.... I am not sure how late in the year, the house is rented. The house is not insulated and can get cold in spite of using the wood stove and propane heater. We happened to have a couple of very rainy, windy days. Being New Englanders, we knew how to dress for this kind of cool weather so it was not a problem for us."

  • The start of a family tradition!

"We have just returned from a wonderful five day adventure in Vermont, staying at the Lake House at Mile Point for the first time. It couldn’t have turned out better. The mountains were filled with all of the colors of autumn while the views of Lake Champlain were breathtaking. The house was extremely comfortable with all of the luxurious amenities (including my favorite – an espresso machine!). There was even a wonderful collection of family board games from which we had friendly competitions each evening. It was a great time to introduce our granddaughter to the area, whether we pushed her in the tree swing or stopped to admire a magnificent red fox that strutted in front of us during a walk. We also visited the local sites including Lake Placid (only 90 minutes away) where we watched ice hockey action at the Olympic center. My son and I caught 54 fish off the shore one afternoon with nonstop action. One aggressive Northern Pike snapped my line after a two-minute valiant struggle. I'm sure I will be thinking about the one that "got away" during the upcoming winter months. We'll just have to return soon and try again!"

  • Peaceful and Comfortable Retreat

"I stayed here for 2 months in the winter and found it to be everything that was advertised. It was well equipped, clean, comfortable - even elegant, light and cozy. There was more than enough room to spread out. Views were amazing, walks went on forever and Lake Champlain and Burlington were very close. I found myself thinking summer would be just as wonderful! There was always something to do. Owners were nearby, willing and able to help in any way. Truly serene and peaceful!"
