  • Simply perfect

"We had a wonderful time on Savage Island with friends and family. It's your own island....what else do you need? It was the perfect place to get away and relax. The house had everything you could need and Randy, the caretaker, was always available."

  • 4.8 stars...amazing summer family retreat.

"This property was so great for our family vacation...three grandparents, three children and their partners, three grandchildren, and rooms and baths to spare! A sampling of our week... We went fishing and caught a huge pike and plenty of perch right in front of the house. We went sailing out of Ladd's Marina down the road in Grand Isle. We had picnics at Alburgh Dunes State Park and St. Anne's Shrine. We went biking all over the islands. We took a quick trip into Montreal for lunch and shopping. We launched a ski boat just down the road and tied it up at the private dock right in front of the house. We had huge family dinners on the patio every night while we watched the sunset over the lake. We had a bonfire in the back yard (also played Bocci and horseshoes and volleyball back there). The only thing that kept this rating from being 5 stars was the tap water and the road... There is not a well on the property so we had to use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, and raw food prep. Not a big deal, really...with 12 people in the house we still only went through 1 gallon per person. The other concern we had was the road that we had to cross to get to the dock/lake. During the day, not busy at all, but nights and weekends was a different story. Again, not a big deal, just had to make certain the kids were playing in the back yard and were always accompanied down to the lake. All in all an amazing bargain...a place like this could easily fetch $4000/week further south on the lake...$6000 on Sunapee, Sebago, or Winnepesauke...and even more on the cape!"

  • Appletree Point cottage in Burlington, VT.

"We had a family of 10 for 2 days and then 9 for the rest of the week with 4 children ages 5,7,14 and 17. It was a great time in spite of the heat wave that hit Burlington at that time. Although the Lake Champlain water was high because of previous rains, all of us could easily get into the water with its fine sandy bottom. It was easy to launch our kayaks and canoe for several pleasant rides in the bay. We especially enjoyed the outside table for supper and the screened porch at all times. Many of us are cyclists and we enjoyed the proximity of the magnificent Burlington Bike Path and Colchester Causeway into Malletts Bay ( Island Line Trail). There were adequate cooking and dining utilities and a very good dishwasher as well as a handy updated washer and dryer. Many enjoyed the outdoor shower. The listing description was accurate. The photos reflected the rental's appearance. The property was clean and maintained as well as possible for an 80 year old facility. The owner was very responsive to our questions and concerns. We recommend the property. The proximity to Burlington's amenities is very good. A large supermarket is within a mile. North Beach with a beach, lifeguard, paddle board rentals, accessible parking and a snack bar are within 2 miles. There is good shore fishing access at the nearby Winooski River and Burlington fishing pier."

  • Great cottage in a lovely location and a good base from which to explore

"We had a great time in the cottage. It was lovely to be next to (and swim in) the lake and the weather was perfect - it was so easy to travel around and we enjoyed visiting the farms and vineyards in Burlington and Stowe too. Thank you very much."
