"My mother and I concluded a "tour" of family visits with a 6 night stay at Barney Point. The setting is stunning with views across the lake and down the lake from this treed ledge above the lake. Every night we built an outdoor fire and watched the sun set. There great view to the lake from the front of the house and captivating partial views from most of the bedrooms. The big open space is great for visiting, hanging out and entertaining. We had multiples dinner guests and visitors over the course of our time there and everyone loved it. The owner Tim was very communicative in advance of the trip. We ended up arriving later than planned, and he brought in a lot of wood for the fireplace insert. What's more he turned on the lights and the space heaters and laid in a fire so that we felt immediately welcomed when we arrived. This particular night was chilly and he set out extra blankets and so on. We were very comfortable and did not get cold, and it was easy to learn to use the fireplace insert, which warms the main area of the house quickly. If you have a cold sensitive person in your group, the downstairs bedroom stays quite comfortable with the space heater and the fireplace. There is a huge screened porch with another big table suitable for a big group, again with amazing views. The kitchen is well equipped and we had everything we needed. I would suggest a few more non-glass plates and a salad spinner....but thats a suggestion not a complaint :-) This is a setting best for people who appreciate simplicity, beauty, and a sense of history. It is convenient to the causeway trail, which I feel is a must do for walkers or bikers. There are grocery stores a short drive away though I prefer to shop at City Market in Burlington which is an awesome market. The drive-in movie theater is also a must-do. We definitely will look to return to Barney Point. We have stayed at many homes on the lake in Colchester, Shelbourne and Charlotte over the past three years when our daughter has been in school at UVM and this was certainly our favorite."Guest: Anonymous Date of Stay: October 2013 Review Submitted: October 17, 2013View listing
"The cottage was lovely - spotlessly clean and well equipped as well as comfortable. Jim and Bonnie were gracious hosts and very helpful. The cottage was an easy drive back to Burlington and not far from Essex Junction for Outlets and mini golf for the kids. The neighborhood was quiet and neighbors were friendly and helpful. We felt very much at home and would return again without a second thought. It was a restful and enjoyable stay. Thanks Jim and Bonnie!"Guest: Ginni R. "I stayed here for 2 months in the winter and found it to be everything that was advertised. It was well equipped, clean, comfortable - even elegant, light and cozy. There was more than enough room to spread out. Views were amazing, walks went on forever and Lake Champlain and Burlington were very close. I found myself thinking summer would be just as wonderful! There was always something to do. Owners were nearby, willing and able to help in any way. Truly serene and peaceful!"Guest: Ann Date of Stay: January 2014 Review Submitted: April 23, 2014View listing
"This property was so great for our family vacation...three grandparents, three children and their partners, three grandchildren, and rooms and baths to spare! A sampling of our week... We went fishing and caught a huge pike and plenty of perch right in front of the house. We went sailing out of Ladd's Marina down the road in Grand Isle. We had picnics at Alburgh Dunes State Park and St. Anne's Shrine. We went biking all over the islands. We took a quick trip into Montreal for lunch and shopping. We launched a ski boat just down the road and tied it up at the private dock right in front of the house. We had huge family dinners on the patio every night while we watched the sunset over the lake. We had a bonfire in the back yard (also played Bocci and horseshoes and volleyball back there). The only thing that kept this rating from being 5 stars was the tap water and the road... There is not a well on the property so we had to use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, and raw food prep. Not a big deal, really...with 12 people in the house we still only went through 1 gallon per person. The other concern we had was the road that we had to cross to get to the dock/lake. During the day, not busy at all, but nights and weekends was a different story. Again, not a big deal, just had to make certain the kids were playing in the back yard and were always accompanied down to the lake. All in all an amazing bargain...a place like this could easily fetch $4000/week further south on the lake...$6000 on Sunapee, Sebago, or Winnepesauke...and even more on the cape!"Guest: Vt Native Date of Stay: August 2013 Review Submitted: August 26, 2013View listing
