  • Beyond Awesome!

"When warm, gracious and welcoming hosts, lovely views, antique- without- being-overbearing appointed accommodations with breathing room for all, ease of exploration, and price come together... you have gold. This property and the hosts, Marsha and Dave, are gold. Our only place to stay when in the area!!!!"

  • Awesome Mountain Retreat Among the Trees

"We were four retired teachers looking for a retreat to watch the fall color. The Duck and Dog did not disappoint! The home is just as it looks in the photos! Everything is provided, and the owners were so accommodating. They sent us detailed directions to the house, as well as, an information list about the home and where grocery stores were located. We found our beds fresh and the bathrooms and kitchen sparkling and exceptionally well equipped. There was never a wait for showers with the instant hot water. We have stayed in VRBOs before where we have had to clean the house and wash all the dishes and utensils before feeling like we could enjoy our stay! Definitely not the case here...not even a dog hair or duck feather! We spent a wonderful week in Sept/Oct watching the trees change from our first day to our last. What beauty! We had gorgeous weather during the days for our forays into the surrounding towns and cool evenings when we enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and the indoor pellet stoves...nice and cozy. We hiked, photographed, discovered lovely shops in friendly towns, took panoramic drives through the Green Mountains, and took in a performance at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. More than anything, the relaxing, peaceful setting of this home among the trees, made our Vermont get-away an awesome a success."

  • Perfect Vermont Getaway

"We traveled up to the Northeast Kingdom for Thanksgiving and filled the house for the long weekend and enjoyed everything so very much. It is a spectacular place. I had not been there in 20-some years but remember it as a bit of paradise---and am happy to report it’s still one of the great pristine places in America. The Barn building itself is amazing, with soaring oak-hewn beams everywhere, and the acres of private grounds of fields and deep, quiet forests offer total privacy. Every day was filled with great things to do— from a 10K charity race the whole town turns out for, to group game times (Charades! Ping Pong challenges! Scrabble wars! Poetry reading competition!) and restful reading hours set around the majestic fireplaces in the Great Room and the huge kitchen. Let’s not forget the delicious cocktails and h’or d’oeuvres nightly, as well as cross country–skiing around the lake (yup, it snowed this year, nice white powder) and some lively games of pond hockey warmed by the fire-pit and steaming cocoa and marshmallows for the kids and hot toddys for the older generation. The kids were in heaven having fun. There was barbequing on the lookout patio, communal meal preparation in the gourmet kitchen, and truly wonderful meals served regally at the 20-person dining table. We went on long walks daily, too. The place was very clean, well-equipped, filled with very cool antiques (a 16-foot bellows, and antique sleigh, and massive wood and metal weigh scale as coffee table), and interesting to explore. Did I mention that the mattresses were the best we've ever slept on? All the beds have nice big duvets on them, very cozy. Baths are gleaming white and towels are whiter yet. The owners were warm and helpful and quick to answer all our questions in detail. We will definitely be back, and certainly recommend it most highly to anyone looking for the perfect Vermont getaway."

  • Good Central Location, Beautiful views

"We spent a week at this condo during Vermont's peak foliage season. What a treat it was! Some of the best views we saw were right out our windows and from the balcony of this condo. It was well stocked, comfortable, and quiet. We enjoyed using the fireplace several of the nights we were there. It's close to Woodstock, a fun community, and near many beautiful sights."
