  • Great stay

"I spent a week at Amanda's hideaway and I enjoyed every minute of it. The house is very cozy & location is great for relaxing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We went hiking around Grayson Highlands to see the wild ponies, rode the creeper trail and fished in the pond out front. All of the neighbors are very friendly and Amanda's hideaway is located close to a quick stop gas station that's great for getting something you forgot while in town."

  • Great Getaway

"We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. Pam did a wonderful job of making it warm and welcoming. It was very quiet and peaceful. We loved the fenced in yard, well sort of fenced in, but it was enough to keep our 3 dogs contained. We loved spending time on the front deck."

  • Peace Lodge 8/28/2014 - 8/30/2014

"Our family group consisting of 8 adults (ages 55 - 65 years old) searched for a place that would accommodate a group our size. Peace Lodge advertised to sleep 10 persons. PL is a beautifully designed structure with high end furnishings built into the side of mountain. Though we are accustomed to mountain roads even on motorcycles, we found the description of the property on several websites to be misleading & needs to be revised. The realtor among us found the property description quite vague & shocking. Advertised sleeping 10 people, thankfully one couple in our party was not able to come at the last minute, as there were beds for only 6 people. A king, a queen and 2 good size twins. The twin beds are also trundle beds which means 2 more people—or 2 couples would have to sleep in same room. Perhaps owner is not aware a number of web sites referencing PL state it accommodates 10 persons as he indicated great concern the drain fields could accommodate 8 persons. This made no sense to contractors among us; if the drain field was approved for 8 persons to live there, then 8 persons for 48 hours should not be a problem. Seating at KIT table is for 5. Seating in LIV RM is for 5. Seating in REC RM is for 4 plus seating for 2 at game table. Seating for 6 on deck. View of river is non-existent except for a couple peek-a-boo places thru trees. Access down to river requires someone in excellent health who can climb lots of steep steps & chicken ladders. The advertised statement “conveniently located 3.5 miles from Route 58” needs to be revised also & the word “convenient” removed. AFTER we had reserved PL, we were THEN informed a 4-wheel drive vehicle was REQUIRED to access the lodge. Owner believed our truck would make trip down to the lodge but not back up. He graciously provided 4-wheel drive Durango…which meant all belongings had to be transferred to his vehicle every time you went back down to house. The “convenient 3.5 mile drive to Rt. 58" is very narrow, winding, steep w/several switchbacks & almost no place wide enough to pass another vehicle. Driver is required to back up to wide spot in road so other vehicle can pass. Thankfully this happened to us only once when my brother had to back up approx. 1/4 mile on narrow, curvy road to allow other vehicle to pass. Owner very friendly, accommodating and if an accurate description of the Peace Lodge works for you, then this is a fabulous place to get away."

  • It's the little details that make a big difference!

"We rent from VRBO anytime we vacation within driving distance of our home. We'd read about the Virginia Creeper Trail and decided we wanted to try it. We rented this cabin based upon the comments about it's proximity to the trail. Our GPS lead us right to the address, yet we felt we had the mountain to ourselves. The interior of the cabin is just as you see in the photos. But, they are the only VRBO owners to provide everything except the food, including: toilet paper, paper towels, coffee beans, coffee grinder, liquid soap, dishwashing detergent--and even a footstool in the kitchen for shorties like me who need to reach something on the second shelf of the cabinets! We loved sitting in front of the fireplace watching TV. The towels and washcloths were the plushest in any cabin I ever rented. The beds were extremely comfortable. The kitchen ware was nice; In some places we've rented the cookware was all beat up. On our first evening, 3 deer nibbled on grass in the front. The mountain stream was peaceful and relaxing. It was pretty cold and windy when we were there, or else we would have spent our evenings in front of the fire pit, listening to the mountain stream. Finally, the people in this area were some of the friendliest folks I have ever met! We want to come back next summer and do the trail again, and we hope to stay here."
