  • The Perfect Place

"My husband, myself, our two sons and their wives, along with a 4 wk old grand daughter, stayed at this cabin for the Hillsville Flea Market event. It was the perfect choice for us. I waited till pretty late to book a property because we weren't sure how many of us there would be going. Carol, the owner, is wonderful to work with. It was a little drive to Hillsville but the location gives visitors the perfect opportunity to explore Mayberry and other surrounding places of interest. The front porch is the perfect place to just sit out at night a relax with a cup of coffee. There's a open field across the country road and the road is very quiet. We were early risers for the flea market, and enjoyed the back sun room in the morning. Carol was concerned that with 6 of us it would be tight, but my youngest son brought an air mattress for the twin room and that worked perfectly. I hope to return again to explore more of the area."

  • Perfect location for a girls' retreat

"Eight adult female family members converged upon this lovely location for what we hope is the first of many Girls' Getaways! It was a perfect meeting place for us coming from VA, SC, NC, and OH. The crisp, frosty mornings gave way to warm and bright afternoons, perfect for horseback riding, hiking, and porch sitting. The on-site staff was attentive but not overly so. They were only a phone call away if we needed them. We kept a roaring fire going in the upstairs fireplace going for most of the weekend just to knock the chill off. The cabin was clean and well appointed. There was plenty of space for all of us. The two little girls who came with us thought the room upstairs in the loft area was built just for them! Large windows in the living room overlook the beautiful pastures and mountains, and we delighted in seeing the horses at a distance each day. Branden, the nephew of the property manager, came over and helped our little ones get up on "Misty" the white horse and ride around the property for a bit. They loved it and he was very good with the kids. Our group is already looking towards a return trip to make this an annual event! Sherman, the owner, was very easy to work with and his communication was always very quick, which I appreciated as the "event coordinator". Thank you for everything!"

  • Perfect weekend family get-away

"We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at the cottage and will definitely try to return some day and rent the same cottage hopefully for a bit longer next time. It was a perfect, peaceful, weekend getaway for our family of 4, with 2 adult children who still like hanging out with their parents on occasion, but prefer their own bedrooms. We ate in for breakfast (and enjoyed the delicious scones, coffee and tea provided by the owner) both days, did the Virginia Creeper Trail one day, and played Canasta at the rustic kitchen table into the night. The TV went unused. The house has a very warm, cozy, homespun feel, very clean and well furnished (and well managed), with creative and tasteful renovations and decorating. I got lots of great ideas for my own renovation projects. I also commented several times to my family that if we had a cottage in the mountains, I'd want something just like this. Tucked in the back of a quiet neighborhood, private, quiet, peaceful, and with lots of wildlife around. So glad we chose this over a hotel or rustic cabin. Just what the doctor ordered for a weekend family getaway. So glad we found this rental (and hope these reviews don't make it so popular that we can't book it next time!)."

  • Great stay

"I spent a week at Amanda's hideaway and I enjoyed every minute of it. The house is very cozy & location is great for relaxing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We went hiking around Grayson Highlands to see the wild ponies, rode the creeper trail and fished in the pond out front. All of the neighbors are very friendly and Amanda's hideaway is located close to a quick stop gas station that's great for getting something you forgot while in town."
