  • Lovely place to relax!

"We spent 3 nights in July and the mountain weather was so cool and pleasant! Everything about the cabin was clean, comfortable and homey. However the drive up the mountain requires a good strong engine, and we did not want to do it at night. The bathrooms are both upstairs which might be a problem for some. I really enjoyed time away from the TV and computer too. There were plenty of books and magazines, and a well stocked kitchen. We had a great time at the cabin!"

  • Real Paradise at Little River Paradise

"My family and I have been staying at this terrific cabin for the last 7 years. There is no where that we would rather be. The fishing is good, the view is just perfect and the deer, turkey, geese as well as an eagle can't be any more fantastic. The cabin is comfy and has all you need to kick back and enjoy your stay. There are no cars zooming down the road and no sirens in the distance, no nasty smell from diesel fuel just clean air and the sound of the river. I can't wait for our next trip!"

  • A Comfy Private Retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains

"Our stay at River Oak Retreat was quite enjoyable. The cottage sits high on a hill in the valley outside of Galax. It is a quick 5 mile drive to the town. Once you arrive at the cabin, it is secluded and peaceful. The sound of crickets and peepers was both loud and relaxing. The deck’s view looks across treetops into the valley. If you are looking for a cabin with privacy and the chance to experience the solitude of nature, this is the place. We used the cottage as our base for two days of cycling the New River Trail which has a trailhead on the road into town (the start of the trail is in downtown Galax). It was very convenient. We spent another day touring the Blue Ridge Parkway which was less than a 30 minute drive from the cabin. We also visited Galax’s local farmers market, downtown and the town’s new microbrewery. I highly recommend a visit to the microbrewery; nice people and good craft beer. The cabin itself is very nicely decorated. I believe they just recently refurnished it. It is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped. This place was CLEAN. It was exactly what we were looking for in a vacation home. We would definitely visit the cabin in the future. You might find cabins with a similar price along the trail. What they cannot offer that this cabin offers is privacy and being able to experience the mountains without someone 100 feet away."

  • Wonderful start to a 2 week vacation

"This little town on the New River has many things to offer if you are looking for beautiful scenery, good music, farmer's markets and a relaxing environment. However, the best part of the house is the owner and the people that call this town their home. My family was amazed at the friendliness of this town. The home owner Fran was the friendliest owner I have met to date on VRBO. She took an interest in my family and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. She knew my mother was coming down on the last day to celebrate her 75th birthday before we headed to the beach and she stopped by after she arrived so she could meet my mother and father. My children told my wife and I that they loved the town and thought Fran was like having an Aunt in Virginia. We will definitely be back and are already missing the peaceful beauty of this incredible little town."
